Transformers: Combiner Wars: Prime Trilogy
Deluxe class
Blast-Off
Got this little gem off of Amazon!
I’m so excited to finally have it. Back in the days of Combiner Wars in the far flung past of 2016 we got modern versions of the G1 classics, however when it came to Blast-Off what we got in place of a space shuttle was a repaint of the Aerialbot Slingshot instead. Which that was a little off putting.
Now in Japan a more iconic Blast-Off was included in the Warriors Unite Bruticus set, but that version never made it to the states. Until August 2018. Looking at the box we see some amazing art of Blast-Off well…blasting off in orbit of Cybertron and all of the Prime master symbols behind him, because not only is this part of the Combiner Wars line, but he’s part of the Power of the Primes line, which is the current line right now.
Vehicle Mode:
Blast Off is once again a space shuttle, and I am thrilled about that. The color and the overall look inspire back to the original G1 Combaticon, and the shuttle has a lot of nice glossy, black paint apps (beware of painting chipping though).
I do find the overall shuttle mode a bit…flat. I mean every sculpted well, and the paint’s nice, but that shuttle as a whole doesn’t look like a modern Earth shuttle.
I suppose Blast-Off’s vehicle mode could be a future Earth ship, it just doesn’t resemble anything to a current one that exists today.
The weapon can be stored a under the nose of the shuttle, and a part of it doubles as a pseudo landing gear. And of course the hand/foot gun can be pegged onto any of the ports of the shuttle mode as well.
Transformation:
Easy-Peezy. A lot of these Combiner Wars deluxes has a pretty ‘paint-by-numbers’ transformations scheme. Even though Blast-Off has a few extra steps which separates him from the others, it’s a very simple task.
Robot Mode:
Bot mode is probably as close to a modern iteration of a G1 Blast-Off as we’re ever going to get, and I’m okay with that. We get a very nice G1 inspired Combaticon with nice paint and tampographs, and I'm really loving his booster boots; it's perfect.
Limb Mode:
As a Combiner Wars deluxe Blast-Off can either be an arm, or a leg. And yea, that’s it.
Overall Blast-Off is okay. I wish I could say I loved this toy, but I don’t.
Yea, it’s great that I finally have a CW Blast-Off figure who isn’t cosplaying as an evil Aerialbot, and his paint deco is better than your average retail deluxe; however the toy does feel a bit lacking, and in my opinion isn't really worth $30.00
