I implemented some scaling trickery and added in a few test objects, along with Claude and Whiskur, to get a feel for how everything will look.

not looking half bad! I still need to mess with render settings and sprite offsets but it's a good start.
Wish I could make the cursor appear above map layers but beneath the player, but I haven't had the brain power to think that through yet with what kind of layer fuckery I could pull.
Here's a meow meow I gotta render!!!
Love her but I hate rendering 😔
Been working on first person point n' click segments in the game, just for that added bit of immersion.

so this-- this is one of the last surviving images for a tiny rpg maker game I was trying to make for a gamejam in 2022, shortly before my hard drive died.
It was supposed to be a mix of aesthetics as the characters get transported between a series of bite-sized worlds. This would have been the first screen of a "Y2k Vibes" sort of world. I legit just slapped something wacky together in blender and decided it was perfect.
I'd say this was probably my first foray into pre-rendered backgrounds. I want to do more of those. Not even for anything big. Just to do them.
Silent Hill 2 restroom pre-rendered in the style of Final Fantasy VII.
Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive | 2001 | Spellbound Entertainment
This real-time tactical game set in 1880s southwestern US has really great pre-rendered environments, perfect inspiration for any wild west setting
