been feeling a little lost, unmotivated, and down lately. but seeing this reminds me to remember that, in the end, it’s my life and no one can help me but myself. hope this brings some motivation to all of you as the semester is coming to an end 💕

Hi! 1st I want to say congrats on getting in-you're living the dream :) 2nd I was wondering how you chose schools you felt were compatible with what kind of dr you want to be and your abilities (for lack of a better word- in terms of grades and mcat scores)
Thanks!! To be honest I didn’t look at the GPAs and MCAT for every school.
I applied to schools based on if my main interests and priorities as a future physician matched theirs.
I used the osteopathic medical school information book which is a free PDF off of the AACOMAS website.
https://www.aacom.org/docs/default-source/cib/aacom-cib-2018-front-schools.pdf?sfvrsn=0
I read about each school. Looked at the missions statements of each , look at extra information about each school and looked at their special programs. I’m very interested in volunteering , service, educating others, and mission trips. So these are some things I looked at. I don’t have any research experience so I didn’t apply to schools that stretched the importance of research at their institution.
So remember to focus on your interests more than the numbers but I did apply to 15 schools.I had a 3.6 gpa and 503 on the mcat.
2nd video blog! This one is over the Med School application cycle, and a few more tips for the AMCAS application and secondary applications!
1. Learn any new material before 10, and then after 10 use that time to practice or review.
2. Do not mistake time for effort. Your aim should be efficiency understanding the material as smoothly without taking stressful amounts of your time.
3. Know what it is your late comfort, time. Mine is 2pm, which means after 2pm I might be awake but might not be prepared to wake up in the morning.
4. Evernote + Quizlet + Youtube= educational friendly media tools for late night crunch
5. Find a groove, but late night studying should not be a complete chill fest, science has actually showed that difficult problems and assignment are better, and you actually retain more.
6. Find music that will set the mood. Instrumental keep me focused, hip hop keeps me up and creative, indie is lovely for writing. Just find what work. Also a study playlist could not hurt.
7. Although changing location may be hard at 1am, try changing positions, from standing up and reciting concepts from memory or using a white board to attack a problem in 10 minutes.
8. Lastly, I love "sleepyti.me".
Internships 101 (premed series- share)
Internships are valuable because you are given the opportunity to be present in a career frame of mind. You are viewing stress, accomplishments and listening to stories of progress. It is not always glamorous or gut wrenching. It is exactly what you make it. It is accumulating the positives, and that, is all up to you.
Internships are not completely black and white. Some weeks are repetative and others are terribly unpredictable. But you are not there to brush up your resume, you are there to observe, ask questions, and become focused and present in the moments given. Phases of the internship: reeling an internship in and capturing it in your schedule. To reel an internship in, try asking around your college. I found it is always helpful to build an impression when you have inside contacts. If that proves difficult a great way is to put yourself out there. Go to the place(s) you would like the intern and find the possible steps of making that a reality.
