I heard white men feeling comfortable complaining about black history month and womens history month.. Not bothering to think about WHY these things are needed.

They feel entitled, because fair treatment and equality to them means white people should also have a history month. Not only that, it should be gender specific.

Now, when the fire coursing through my veins was under control and I had an intelligent response ready– I stopped myslef.

They’re right. We really should have a white history month…

Because there’s so much I learned as an adult that was never talked about in school. Things that are not common knowledge, or part of everyday conversation or understanding.

If there was a white history month, kids would be forced to talk to their families, and watch educational movies, and write papers about their history.

during white history month they can read up on how the white men sail to conquer the world. Landing on continents across the globe and “discovering” land.

we can learn about how they Raped, pillaged, and enslaved the natives living there and made us/them spend decades, centuries, fighting and dying to regain a semblance of the freedom that they stole and beat us with.

We can learn about which passages of the Bible they quoted to prove that we are animals, or that woman were born to be sub servant.

We can learn which crops the slaves made them rich with.

We can play games matching the enslaved racial group to our nations monuments and structures.

We can learn about genealogy and get a head count of how many people we know that are ancestors of slaves, or better yet, how many share DNA with their ancestors slave owners.

During white history month we can learn about all the inventions white people stole and took credit for. And all the important white men In history who worked to uphold laws legalizing prejudice and oppression..

and don’t get me wrong, We can learn about the brave white people who gave up their seats on busses, and walked their feet bloody in marches, knocked on doors, took beatings, hid smuggled and freed slaves, and overall risked their lives when they didnt HAVE to.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee: A Timeless Exploration of Justice and Prejudice!

In the fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama, during the 1930s, the set of “To Kill a Mockingbird” follows the Finch family. Scout Finch, the young narrator, grows up alongside her brother Jem and their father, Atticus Finch, a principled lawyer. The novel centers around Atticus defending Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. Through Scout’s eyes, we can witness the racial tensions, moral dilemmas, and childhood adventures that shape her understanding of the world. The themes and characters throughout the book are as follows, Justice and Injustice: The trial of Tom Robinson serves as the central conflict. Lee masterfully portrays the flawed justice system and the deep-rooted racism prevalent in the South. Atticus Finch embodies integrity, empathy, and courage and his unwavering commitment to justice resonates with readers. Prejudice and Empathy are expounded when Scout’s innocence allows her to question societal norms. She learns empathy by seeing the world through others’ eyes. Additionally, Boo Radley, the reclusive neighbour, symbolizes the misunderstood outsider. It can be denoted that his mysterious presence adds depth to the narrative. The theme of "Childhood and Growing Up" comes to life when Scout’s coming-of-age journey is heartwarming. Her interactions with Calpurnia, Miss Maudie, and her brother Jem provide valuable life lessons.

I remember reading 'To Kill a Mockingbird' in high school and being deeply moved by the story of Tom Robinson and Atticus Finch. Growing up in a small town in the South, I had heard similar stories of racial injustice and prejudice. But it wasn't until I read Harper Lee's novel that I fully understood the depth of the problem and the importance of standing up against it.

One incident that stuck with me was when I witnessed a friend's family member making a racist comment about a black person. I felt a surge of anger and disappointment, but I didn't know how to respond. Then I remembered Atticus's words: 'Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.'

I took a deep breath and spoke up, calmly but firmly, and explained why the comment was hurtful and wrong. It wasn't easy, but it was a small moment of courage that I will always be proud of. Reading 'To Kill a Mockingbird' taught me that even in the face of overwhelming opposition, one person can make a difference and that standing up for what is right is always worth the risk.

Derision Spun

The mark of hate is the lack of shared reference to mankind when derision becomes the norm in place of the civil tongue

ridicule is the mode when a voice detests the world despising what’s not understood seeking safety behind disdain

erecting walls in response to the strangers asking due they’re discounted all the same as the chattel below the feet

communication flows one way none can hear when beasts plea demanding balance in the scheme denied with slurs are hurled their way

derision spun as calm discourse or humor from the acid tongue each rebukes the common ground permission given to cold scorn

stripped of kinship from the whole ensured by use of only words designated for the worms without the souls of mortal ilk.

What is the difference between Barr’s slur and Bee’s slur?  Barr compared her target to a non-human.  Bee chose to pick a slur that was crude, but still touched on a shared humanity.  The poem “Derision Spun” is about designating enemies as non-humans.

I am writing a paper about how the communities actually affects young teenagers, and what the consequences are.  More or less predujice and (trans)phobia?
