Pre Departure Post 5/12
Hi Everyone!Â
I am super excited to be traveling to Belize for the next 2 weeks. There, I will be taking part in a large animal pre veterinary course, where I will get to work alongside veterinarians. I am very happy to be writing this blog for the SEBS study abroad scholarship, and I am so grateful for this opportunity to travel and study abroad.Â
I leave tomorrow, which feels almost unreal. I just finished my last final exam on Wednesday, and wrapped up my freshman year of college. It went by so fast, and I can’t believe I’m already getting ready to fly off to Belize. I hope these next 2 weeks don’t go too quickly, and I can enjoy every moment! I am most excited to see how veterinary care may be different over in Belize vs the US, and get a lot of hands on experience. I am a little nervous since this will be my first time traveling alone, but knowing there will be other students traveling on the same flight that I am into Belize is comforting.Â
Wish me luck on this new and exciting adventure!

This lil girly who I call itty bitty gets to move onto pasture with the other calves in the next few days!! She is completely off milk now (and very Anger! 😡 about it) but I'm so excited to see her play with the others. 🥺 I'm soft.
First calf of the season was a lil bull! He is small, but stood and had his colostrum like a Good Big Boy. Mama (heifer) was SOOO GOOD. She took all her meds/supplements so easily, is already eating and drinking again, and the placenta is on the way out too. She also milked like a pro and even walked on her halter like a pro! I'm so happy with her :,)

Study tip I've learned this week: setting a timer is helpful when u study bc if you go an entire block of time (ex. 45 mins) and don't actually learn anything...r u really studying effectively??? It helps to check yourself. 😌
Would yall be interested in me posting more about my job? Or like a daily routine thing or a list of my responsibilities..? I work on a (smol) dairy farm and I don't really have an outlet / anyone interested in it but I love my cows and wanna talk about them more, haha.

super young professors are terrified of climate change + sustainability

having to explain that dairy cows are treated like literal queens to literally anyone who has seen a peta video

seeing a surgery in a barn for the first time and screaming UNSTERILE to yourself the whole time

thinking way deeper into things than your prof wants because it's one of your "easy" classes and the material isn't supposed to be that deep to begin with
everyone, and I mean everyone, has a different opinion on hunting + gun control
