Catherine Moylan started her career as a model and beauty queen who won the 1926 International Pageant of Pulchritude. She was crowned, “Beauty Queen of the Universe.” This led to her making her debut on Broadway in the production, Ziegfeld Follies of 1927. A year later, Moylan appeared in Whoopee! (1930). Catherine Moylan would have a very short film career. Two of her noted films were Our Blushing Brides (1930), a Joan Crawford film, and Love in the Rough (1930). Moylan continued to model however, appearing in advertisements for swimsuits in 1931. She would marry a Los Angeles real estate magnate, John H. Singleton that same year. Singleton was the son of a St. Louis venture capitalist and heir to his $5,000,000 fortune. It’s the equivalent of over $97,000,000 today. Catherine Moylan filed for divorce in 1939, claiming her husband deserted their marriage. She received custody of their daughter, $100 per month in child support, a $25,000 settlement, and a $15,000 sum two years later. Moylan passed away in 1969 from rheumatic heart disease. While her time in the spotlight was short, her beauty made a lasting impact. #catherinemoylan #tcm #beautyqueen #beautypageant #beauty #beautiful #broadway #ziegfeldfollies #whoopee #ourblushingbrides #loveintherough
