The Variants of Pozzo (Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett)
Villainous
Heroic
(Only four this time oof might add more later) Click for better photo dimensions and disclaimer at the end. I added more info! Let me know what you think!
Villainous: Joffrey Baratheon and Draco Malfoy (specifically early Draco)
Heroic: Tony Stark and Cleo DeNile
About Pozzo: One of the few people Estragon and Vladimir meet while waiting for Godot. He keeps a man on a leash as a servant and has no trouble treating people in a degrading manner. Especially, his servant who he frequently dehumanizes and refers to using “animal” words.
Variants of Pozzo are some of the most insufferable characters in media. They are extremely arrogant and have a sense of self entitlement that takes serious audacity to have. Evil versions of Pozzo mirror, or even heightened, his cruelty. Heroic variants lack his cruelty, but retain his arrogance. Both evil and heroic variants of Pozzo have some degree of theatricality.
Key traits:
Extreme sense of self-entitlement
Okay with treating other people like dogs
Keeps people they fear on a chain
Superiority complex
Doesn’t listen to others when they talk
Think they are the most important person/best person
Think they are smarter than they are
Okay with degrading people
Have an element of theatricality
Would be pitiful, if they weren’t so cruel
Bravado masking inability/insecurity
Hurls insults/derogatory names at people
Have a temper
Not as savvy as they think
Thinks their name makes them important
Authoritarian
Mask insecurity with power
Have delusions of grandeur
Hold some position of power
Very performative dominance
Tries to dominate the conversation
Amortentia scent: When a Pozzo variant smells amortentia, they namely smell their own perfume/cologne/scent. However, there’s a faint scent of something… sweet, but it’s nearly completely overpowered by their own. They don’t fall for a person unless they’ve already bent their knee to them.
Tarot card: The Emperor (reversed), representing their abuse of power.
Biggest dream: Given all their personality traits, it’s no surprise their biggest dream is to have the world at their feet.
Who else is a variant of Pozzo
Quick disclaimer!
This idea is based off posts made by the amazing @witchthewriter Hers are based on Greek gods/goddesses, go check them out! They’re all amazing!!! You can find the masterlist here
Not all of the characters come from fandoms I’m familiar with, some come from research I did to make each post. Thus, I might not know all the lore for a character and the character might not make as much sense to someone who has seen the media.
Not every character will match every aspect of the character I put them as variants of! This is because they are not the actual Shakespeare character themselves and likely weren’t even inspired by them. I’m just matching them with who I think they’re most like.
Some of the characters may fit another Shakespeare character as well and may appear again in a future/past post.
