Purple pancakes
Once upon a time, in a world unlike any other, there was a kingdom where pancakes were not merely food—they were magic. These were no ordinary pancakes; they were large, fluffy, and purple, with swirls of glittering syrup that sparkled in the sun. But the true wonder of the pancakes lay in the tiny people who lived on top of them.
The Pancake Kingdom was a bustling city perched atop these enormous, magical purple pancakes. The people, known as the Pancakins, were no taller than a thumb and were incredibly skilled in crafting, farming, and protecting their homes. Each Pancakin lived in a cozy little hut made from soft butter and cinnamon sticks, and their gardens bloomed with syrup-filled flowers. Life was peaceful, and the Pancakins spent their days tending to the pancake fields, which grew new pancakes for their kingdom to expand.
Now you must understand this kingdom formed atop these magical pancakes was made out of pure magic, and not just any magic but the most powerful magic of all that of life. These pancakins they were not born but made, not much is known about the creator of this kingdom not even the people of the kingdom know where nor how it was that they were created but what they did know was that they’re kingdom while full of life and thriving had a serious problem for miles away lived another much larger kingdom filled with much larger creatures, this kingdom of creatures was none other then the land of giants, and it’s leader was far more fearsome then any other being for he was known as the emperor or giant emperor, the only thing more fearsome then he was his hunger, and need for power.
One day the emperor was holding a grand feast for his people, though this “feast”, was more of a performance of sorts to show off his riches and power, for in his own kingdom none were more powerful then he, he was known to smash entire mountains, drink entire seas, and magically transform water dragons into sushi to devour, there was nothing he couldn’t hunt down and claim for himself. His banquet hall alone held trophies and addornments from all over some were mounted heads of beasts that no one could begin to describe for they were so unusual they had nothing to compare them to, for nothing in neither they’re world nor ours were quite like it. The emperor had a high interest in collecting anything rare and magical as well as making a show of entertaining his guests for the richer he looked the more prosperous his kingdom would be or so he thought.
His guest were arriving in droves in that of rich gowns made of dragon scales, some had adornments such as dragon eyes as earings, and the scales sewed onto there gowns in intricate patterns some even had the wings arranged in such a way that one could almost believe that these people were descendants of the dragons themselves, but these were merely the spoils of creatures slain in demonstrations of the emperors power. As the feast began there were many entertainers and story tellers all trying to outdo one another to garner the emperors favor in the hopes of winning a boon from the emperor himself which was said could grant anything that they desired.
One of these entertainers was the self proclaimed fool of peasantry, he had traveled far and wide and had heard many things, when the time came for him to perform before the emperor and his people he took a dramatic step forward and a bow. He seemed to move in a bizarre;y feverish way, spinning here and there and everywhere, at one point he seemed to move so fast that it seemed he were everywhere at once, soon his voice could be heard everywhere far and wide. He began to tell a story of a mysteriously powerful kingdom and its people, even claiming that it could be equal in power if not greater in magical prowess then that of the giants who had slain many dragons and other creatures. As the fool moved shadowy shapes began to form all around the banquet hall they glistened and glowed showing images of delicious purple pancakes, and people made of syrupy butter living atop them, in houses made out of a mixture of what could only be assumed to be cinnamon sticks, and soft butter, in soon there was shown a field filled with flowers that bloomed syrup covered pancakes and some trees that oozed different jams, as the fool spun the images began to change showing a path that the emperor had never seen before just outside the land of giants hidden behind a thicket of incredibly tall trees where the fool states there lay the entrance and path to this mystical kingdom made of syruppy goodness.
The fearsome emperor who could rarely be moved to feel anything felt his insatiable hunger begin to grow at the thought of this kingdom existing for he must have those pancakes and the power that it must come with, upon seeing that the emperor was showing an interest in this legend the fool began to slow his movements gently rocking himself with each turn spin and jump and slowly the images dispersed and the fools voice could be heard no longer he ended his performance with a meek but sincere bow before the emperor before getting down on his knees before his leader to await his decision on who has earned the right for the boon..
Only the emperor had one thought and that was of this kingdom he had never seen but knew had to be true for legends were always steeped in truth.
Eventually upon hearing the crowds before him he recalled he still had a job to do despite his grumbling stomach and his watering mouth. Slowly he looked around the room and began to examine the fool who was kneeling down before him head down to the floor at his feet awaiting his judgement. In a loud yet not unkind commanding voice the emperor said “On your feet fool, stand up and face me so i may see your eyes, men and giants must always be judged on one’s feet for even before rulers all can be equals, you are no animal nor a shameless servant”, the fool and many others in the crowd were shocked by this statement made by there leader for he has never deemed anyone worthy of such a thing, to face him eye to eye well it was unheard of but also showed the highest respect possible for that of the giant race.
The fool slowly, and nervously rose to his feet, he tried to put on a show of bravery and tried not to show fear, but his legs had betrayed him for his knees knocked together so loudly that he was sure that it could be heard over the loudest beasts roars and oceans away, yet if the emperor noticed this he did not show it. Filled with uncertainty and filled with a sickly feeling inside, the fool slowly lifted his head to meet that of the emperors eyes. They were unlike any other he had ever seen they almost seemed to glow, they also showed a type of thirst that made the fool even more nervous in his presence, the emperor reached his enormous hardened scaly hand out down to the fool, he had to fight the urge to jump away from the emperor but didn’t dare for the consequences of such a disrespect and dishonor would be dire. Almost gently the emperor scooped the fool up with one hand while he sat upon his throne of beasts, it was called this due to the fact it was made up of the bones of all manor of monsters that the emperor had slain himself, soon the fool was eye to eye with the emperor.
The emperor could tell that this fool, was more much more then he seemed, for the air around him crackled with untold magics, and many more untold stories and legends long forgotten, he could tell by looking into his eyes he was born of one of the oldest types of magic, he could also see that there was something that he not unlike the emperor craved more then anything, after completing his examination the emperor set the fool down in a seat to his left which was reserved for only those that were considered equal to the emperor, it was that of the highest honor.
In his booming voice that shook the walls, he began to speak,
“Let it be known on this day, the day of feasts, this fool has earned his rightful place at my table and a boon which i will grant him any of that which he desires if…”
He paused as if he were pondering something, or maybe for dramatic effect the fool couldn’t quite be sure but it filled him with a type of uncertainty and dread, but most of all a dull hope, hope that he could finally get his wish.
“If and only if he can lead me to this fabled kingdom, upon doing so I, and this great kingdom will owe you a great debt for if we were to acquire the foods in this fabled land you spoke of we would never go hungry again, and we’d attain power like never before. What’s say you fool, the emperors eyes were bright, and seemed to glow with a hungry expectation…
This greatly unsettled the fool but the emperor seemed to be the only one who had what it was he sought, for his collection was largest in all the world or so he heard, reluctantly the fool stood and bowed before the emperor, hoping against all hope he would not regret what he was about to say, which was.
“Your magnificent greatness you have honored me upon this day, I the great fool of peasantry, and dabbiler of mystical stories and legends, accept this task of which you have asked of me, in exchange however if it’ll please your greatness might I request that I have your word and written documentation that I will receive any boon within your power if i do this great feat for your magnificentness and it’s great people, for i come from a place where such promises are not upheld unless documented and bound by that which is a spoken word and contract for it is my people’s way.”
The emperor merely smiled showing all of his sharp pointy teeth as his eyes seemed to glow with hunger, and what could only be assumed was excitement for the upcoming hunt that was soon about to take place.
“Great fool of peasantry it is here before my own people, i give you this oath if you can lead me to and find this kingdom for me, I shall grant you a boon of anything you desire, if i do not may i be stripped of all my titles, weaponry and hunters prowess, for it is known once it is spoken an oath shan’t be undone”, his voice seemed to boom across the room and shake that of the palace and banquet hall before the fools very eyes a giant stone slab appeared before him with the emperors own insignia upon it, ofcourse it was written in the language of giants, but the fool understood this was the emperor honoring him and giving him the security he needed to continue with this task, slowly he pressed his hand to the slab before him and as he did so it shook trembled and began to glow.
“It is done and set in stone brave fool, you have accepted my task to lead me to this legendary kingdom so i may gain its power and satisfy the hunger of my people, you have done well and while you prepare for the tasks at hand you may live with me in my palace and meet with my generals, and advisors”.
The fool bowed his head once more and soon the feast had ended with the fool being the one who had earned the mere chance for a boon vaguely he felt a sense of disappointment and dread but he couldn’t focus on that now for he had a job to do.
