Armand absolutely hated being part of the French Navy. If he had his way, upon manhood, he would have opened a restaurant, or been a pianist. But Papa had his way instead, and now he was serving his country. Not that being at sea was a good idea. He didn’t even know how to swim! But Papa was an admiral. Papa had pull. Papa got what he wanted, and Armand was a Navy man.

True as it was, he was a skilled fighter. He’d been trained since he could walk. Only a fool would take him on! He could easily be a hunting machine. And yet, here he was, surrounded by pirates. He’d been captured, somehow. He could fight, probably, but he didn’t think that was wise. He struggled, sure, but he wasn’t really fighting. 

He had studied piracy enough, and “parley” fell from his scarred lips far too easily. If he survived this, Papa would not be impressed. Though, sticking to the code, he was brought to the captain. Perhaps he would do well enough at negotiation to survive.
