if you're still manually posting to every platform one by one you're making it harder than it needs to be. set up a workflow that pushes to multiple channels at once and suddenly you have actual time to think about what you're making instead of just the logistics of posting it. what's your post distribution setup? are you doing it manual or have you found a system that works?

This is a PSA to remember to check that your drawings/etc actually appear on your dashboard and general search feeds... Seriously, it happened again: I had to re-post something because it wouldn't so much as appear on my own personal feed, so I knew others wouldn't be able to see it.
Just make sure your stuff will actually end up being visible to everyone, it never hurts to doublecheck.
Always check whatever "search tag" you use in a post to ensure it's actually visible to everyone... Sometimes, you accidentally make something "private" instead (it happens) and sometimes you end up using a tag that Tumblr may decide as "inappropriate for some"-- even though your post itself isn't anything "mature," but is still hidden by the search engine from almost everyone.
If you don't see your post naturally appearing, then delete it and repost it. I suggest that because things appear in "searches" in the order they're posted, not the order they're "unprivated" and had their hiding tag removed-- if that makes sense. So, you risk your stuff getting instantly buried and pushed away on more popular tags, before it's even got a chance to be seen! Of course, you wanna try and do this as minimally as possible, 'cause no one likes a "spam re-poster" and that includes when you're just trying to undo something that got your post unfairly snubbed.
To help you decide which tags to avoid for needless hiding of your content from most, just ask yourself what terms tend to have a "mature" or "inappropriate" relation. To help with that, I recommend using tags for their intended purpose: telling the search engine what your post contains, instead of putting in tags to commentate with further personal thoughts like some (and myself) may do.
(TL;DR- how to use the readmore function when posting fics)
Hi all,
This is just a little note/PSA for the people who a new to posting round here. First of all, welcome to tumblr, it's a weird and wonderful place and I hope you find your own little corner full of love and acceptance. It's always hard to navigate new places and I applaud you all for having the courage to post your stories for us all to read and enjoy.
Now the main point of this, I've noticed that recently the number of people who haven't been utilising the "read more" feature and putting their stories under a cut is rising. And I figure that maybe some of you just don't know how to do it, or you think the website does it for you.
But it's becoming harder to scroll through my dash with multiple stories and reblogs (most with stories 3k+ words) without a read more on them and it's driving me a little insane.
So anyway, as a refresher...
On desktop, when you enter to a new line you see these little things pop up
It's how you can add photos and other fun things but the orange, squiggly lines at the end are your "read more" button. Essentially, you press that and everything after it is put under a cut so pepople don't see it unless they click on it.
On the mobile app, if you type :readmore: on a new line then press enter, without a space after the second : it will automatically put in a read more for you.
There's not strict rules about when you should put a read more in, but as a general guideline I tend to put it in if I'm posting something ~750 words or above. It just makes things easier to scroll through. And again, no hate or anything for the people that don't do it. I just know that personally I won't read or reblog something that doesn't have a read more because I don't want to put it on other peoples dashboards and I know a few people who think the same way. So feel free to ignore this if you want.
But anyway, happy posting. I hope this helps some people out.
Note to self: don’t dump all your rare original posts into a five minute time span otherwise people won’t see them… let them soak in the chaos *face-palm*

Hi!! do you have any advice for somebody that wants to start posting fics? like.. should i just.. do it, i guess? i feel like theres a set standard way to format and tag that i just don’t know about and i’m worried ðŸ˜
hi!! if you’ve already written what you want to post, then posting it is the most fun part (at least to me lol) but i get what you’re saying, the posts that you see others post can look very complicated! when i was posting my first fic, i actually googled ‘how to post a fanfic’ or something like that. now, i just copy and paste the ‘info’ from my previous posts to the new parts and change what needs to be changed! you can always look around and see how others do it and ‘copy’ their ways of listing the info!
this is copied from a dfy chapter but what i want to include is generally:
There was something in that enormous tank, hidden in the murky water. All you knew was that you weren’t allowed inside the room and that it used to hold something dangerous.
pairing: merman!JK x reader
genre: sci-fi, merman/siren au, fluff, angst.
word count: 7k
masterlist
part 3/?
warnings: violence, blood, slight mentions of death, self harming behavior and suicidal thoughts. gory ways of eating raw fish lmao
so i want a picture (not included), a strong summary that gives a feeling more than just summarizing the fic (but that’s up to you!), the pairing, genre/au, word count, a link to my masterlist, links to previous/next part, warning for the chapter, a copy right thingy, and an author’s note. i usually put an author’s note at the bottom as well! and also don’t forget to add a ‘read more’ if it’s longer than maybe 500 words!!
when it comes to tags, i have a standard few tags and then some that are specific for the fic i’m posting. so again, dfy as an example will have:
you don’t wanna bait people but still use the tags that are relevant! for my jungkook fics i always use the bolded ones, the rest are specific for dfy! i have statcounter so i can see what people have searched for to reach my fics and (in this case) ‘jungkook x reader’ is very common just like ‘merman jungkook’ so definitely add the pairing and the au! my last tip if you don’t have a following just yet is to look at the ‘prime time’ for posting! just google what time is best to post! by doing that then you maximize your chances of reaching people!Â
Is there a trick to posting art on tumblr? I recently made an art blog to motivate myself, but tumblr seems to extremely darken my pics/increase the contrast.(artoftrauer99(.)tumblr(.)com if you wanna see what i mean) I thought maybe you know how to battle this.
well, i used to have the exact opposite of your problem (images too blurry), but i think it all comes down to tumblr being shitty at resizing stuff. Tips: use the ‘save for web’ option on photoshop, over there adjust the image size to W:540px (i think as long as you’re not way over the H: 800px you’ll be safe, but the Width is very important!) hope this helped bro <3
