North East trip #day10 | Return journey to Siliguri Introducing my Google addicted friend @bharatsheth195 our official trip planner for all intents and purposes (that mainly includes blaming him if something goes wrong on the trip). If there's something on Google this guy is gonna find it. Blessed with Lady Luck sitting on his shoulder, his bike speed doesn't vary with the condition of the road. To him the brakes on the bike are just for showcase. The pose which models spend hours perfecting, comes naturally to him (as in the pic). His body mostly runs on a diet of Pizza, Oregano and lots of chilly flakes. North East trip #day10 Also known as Dharmachakra Centre, Rumtek Monastery is located 23 kilometres away from Gangtok city and around 14 kilometres from Ranipul. After reaching the Main gate, we had to take an uphill walk (500 meters) to reach the main monastery. The monastery is one of the largest in Sikkim and its architecture resembles the original one in Tsurphu, Tibet. The main building is three storeyed and features many artworks and murals on the walls. There is a large prayer hall at the ground floor and at the backside, a stairway leads to Nalanda Institute of Higher Buddhist Studies. North East trip #day7 We were heading for Dupden Lepcha Homestay which was located in Tingvong, a small village in Dzongu. On the way, we had come across this beautiful place, where the river had shifted its course to one side creating a sandy pathway leading to the village. The place offered the feel of a sandy beach in midst of mountains. North East trip #day6 It was late afternoon and we were famished. So, when the driver made a stop at Thangu on our way back to Lachen, we rushed to order bowls of Maggie for ourselves. Maggie becomes our staple diet whenever we are among the hills. While our meal was prepared, I tried to figure out this game the locals were playing. It was some kind of dice game. Each player rolled a pair of dice in a cup when his turn came and with a thump deposited it down on the red disc in the centre.
