#Repost @350tacoma (@get_repost) ・・・ Smoke enveloped much of Tacoma Monday morning as a scrap heap at Simon Metals went up in flames. Health advisories were issued by Tacoma Fire and State Ecology to avoid the acrid, toxic smoke. The port was shut down. Little, if anything, was mentioned about the 1,500+ migrants and refugees locked next door to the fire at the Northwest Detention Center. Reports from detainees said no precautionary measures were taken and they had no choice but to remain in place and breathe in the toxins. This is what environmental injustice looks like. Enough is enough. No more toxic pollution. No more fossil fuels. No more treaty violations. No more human detention. No more prison profiteers. No more corporatist compromised politicians who allow these injustices to continue. Aside from supporting NWDC Resistance we have two great opportunities to change things soon: Oct 23rd we can tell the city council to renew interim regulations and disallow expansion of existing fossil fuel sites. Oct 30th we can comment on the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency's review of the Puget Sound Energy Liquefied Natural Gas project.
