#poor behavior

Some people have always gotten by with disrespecting other people and their boundaries because others aroung them have taken up for their poor behavior. "That's just how they are" "You need to be the bigger person" "Don't let them get under your skin". All the while, everyone else has to suffer because the disrespectful individual becomes entitled to mistreating others.

It’s utterly appalling how a male (I use this term extremely loosely as calling the individual, a man... would be a vast improvement) I shall call him, “Ugg” whom is in his 70's.

During the course of my lunch meeting, each of the invited attendees stands in a somewhat progressive order by name selection and gives a 30-60 second pitch for ‘what we each do’.

A woman, stood and gave her eloquent talk, the group clapped as she sat back down across the table to Ugg. A brief low comment and hushed exchange was made by several sitting adjacent only audible to them.

Ugg’s named was called next with instant jeers and cheers began as he slowly stood by his aided cane. He turns to the previous speaker and and states, “Fuck you and the goddamn broomstick you flew in on. You’re not pretty and in fact you’re uglier than dog shit.” The room morbidly hushed with astonished slack-jawed expressions, as he sat back down.

My name was called next… and it took every ounce I could muster NOT to deserving assault and assail, Ugg verbally.

My prepared talk was replaced with the following…. “With the administrator’s and group’s kind permission and indulgences… (deep breath and pause)  Ma'am, Ugg, I won’t make claim to know the previous exchange, which at this juncture is completely irrelevant... YOU, Ugg aren’t fit to be included in my gender much less be called a man and far be it for anything of higher accordance. Your mother would be astonished, ashamed and completely disgusted to have bore such a heathen as yourself, whether you felt your disparaging exchange was warranted or not… I don’t know you nor the lady you just berated with condescension. However, I do know you do NOT act as such in a public setting EVER for any reason. You sir, are disrespectful to her, as well as your mother. Your father certainly should have taken you behind a woodshed and taught you some basic manners of which you have NONE currently. Shame on you for your foul display of public behavior. You owe the lady a sincere apology and this group, both of which I doubt will receive simply due to your prior outburst. We all gathered here to openly exchange ideas and grow as a group of professional business men and women, not be privy to your disdain and contemptible actions. (turning to the administrators) Thank you for your time."

the poor are more likely than other people to make bad economic decisions. This is not because they are irrational or foolish but because so much is stacked against them. They are more likely to lack the basic information needed to make good choices, such as which fertiliser to use or when to apply it. They are more likely to live in societies which hold mistaken or harmful views, such as that girls should not go to school.
