The last day to take home a Pond Ring at 40% OFF before they discontinue! Very few left! • When I was around 7 years old, I lived in a cove just yards from a lake. The land was a flatbed that dropped straight down from a small mountain. Flooding was inevitable, the land was thin, barely clinging to the docks that seemed as pendulous as a child’s loose tooth hanging by a root. It was always only a matter of time. • Looking over us from the mountain top were graves from the 1700s. Several families and a baby. I would visit them at times, and my curiosity would ask them questions. These replies always seemed to find my ears on the wind. • Near the small dock, there was a long peninsula that stretched out like a finger reaching to escape this scooped out reality. It almost reached out of the cove. Every day, I would walk all the way to the end, skip rocks, and watch boats go by. There was never a day this didn’t occur. • There are so many stories and novels wrapped around kids that grew up near lakes. Water makes you think. It changes everything in your thought process just like it erodes rocks and hides secrets. • One dry season, the lake went down, almost to the bone. The peninsula did not dry out evenly with the land. Instead, an oblong oval formed. It made a pond! A perfect oblong pond. One side the rocks were rich reds, beige, and orange and the other side a mossy green from their longtime under the water. It was so perfect. I would stand at the end of it and then the beginning again. I would stare not realizing I was like one of those rocks on the side bed. Small and insignificant compared to its glory. • A few months went by and the rocks were all changing the same color. The pond began to turn black. Not green, brown, or murky but black! Like someone had dumped black ink in that oblong shape... • Due to space, I cannot continue but I will paste the second and third parts to a new post soon. I will also post on my blogs. This is the story of the Pond.
