I work in a warehouse. In the almost 2 years I've been there I've become the poster child of what not to do. A few weeks in a sliced my finger open with a brand new box cutter and got 4 stitches. Last year on Easter, I fell down my back steps where I broke my left leg and right foot causing me to be out of work for months. Thursday while operating an electric pallet jack, it jerked me while I tried to turn causing me to stumble off. I reached the handle for balance only I twisted it and thus ran it over my foot. Luckily a coworker was there to help me out. I thought I was fine. Till I got back to the office and realized my foot was swelling. Begrudgingly filled out an accident report. Same coworker taped an ice pack to my foot, later walked me out to my car that another coworker had someone pull around back for me, and made me promise to let him know I got home safe. Went to urgent care the following morning and had x-rays. The dr said my metatarsals were crushed but would send it up to the radiologist. I began laughing because wtf else can I do. I wasn't really in any pain just stiff from a swollen foot. Later the dr called and said the radiologist didn't see anything broken, fractured, or crushed. So yay! I go to work Friday night where my manager probably won't let me live this down anytime soon. (Nor will my family and friends.) Same coworker procures items to make another ice pack for me. Now it's Sunday night, I've been icing my foot all weekend, off and on. It's turning all colors of the bruise rainbow, it's has blisters on it, and it's swelling even more.
This is the machine I was using only it doesn't look or probably operate near as good as the one in the photo. My foot got caught between the battery and forks.
And how my foot looks currently:
Ignore how bad I need a pedicure.
Irony was not lost on me in that on Thursday we all had to do recertification to operate the equipment. Lol
I am my father's daughter. Just like the trailer hitch story.
Anyways, I go back next Friday for a follow up. I hope the swelling goes down by then. The skin hurts cause it's so swollen but other than that, no pain.
I have really got to learn not to grab that handle.
Thankfully I was wearing steell toes so could've been worse.
