Hate being allergic to the actual fucking sun
Where's my sun allergy folks??
If you experience polymorphic light eruption/ photoallergic eruption, what are your go-tos for treatment and relief?
I've limited my sunexposure for years, but this year has already been especially heinous about giving me rashes, especially on my legs (even though I cover them!) I'm so damn itchy!
Ayo, since we’re going into a real intense stretch of heat here in the US:
For those of you with PMLE, please take good care of yourselves!!!
Do whatever you need to do to take care of your skin and prevent outbreaks, such as:
-Taking allergy meds
-Wearing sunscreen & letting it set 10-15 mins before going out
-Staying indoors & out of the sun as much as possible
-Wearing clothing that can minimize sun contact, such as long sun dresses, light breezy pants or sun hats
-Putting on things to relieve your skin; I put on a herbal ointment since it’s been difficult to see a dermatologist lately
-If at all possible, getting in contact with your/a dermatologist for management
This season absolutely SUCKS. I understand that. I’ve got a full-body rash and had one for weeks now; but I manage it as best as I can by taking care of the itchy spots and preventing further irritation by wearing sunscreen.
💖 Please take good care of yourselves! We can get through this. 💖
My dermatologist: informing me that due to my sunlight and sunscreen allergy I should try to limit my exposure to sunlight via sensible long-sleeved clothing.

Lmfao this motherfucking doctor wanted to tell me how to treat my case of polymorphous light eruption, which is a skin allergy to the fucking sun (UVA rays). Here’s how it went down: Me: I’m here today because a year ago my doctor told me to come back and get a cortisone shot so that we can prevent a really bad flare up. Him: Okay… But like… Usually the solution is to prepare for the sun, and allow your skin to harden… Or avoid it completely, and cover up. Or use sunscreen. Usually using steroids on the skin isn’t our first option. I’m reluctant to give you the shot… Me: Well it has worked before- Him: Well it could be something else, not PMLE Me: Me: Me: (lmao you’re fucking serious) Me: I’m on triamcinolone for my body and desonide for my face; those are topical steroids. I was diagnosed with PMLE 3-4 years ago, been treated for it since my sophomore year of high school. During that summer I had such a horrible flare up I had to cover my face with a mask in public cause it was so grosteque. I’ve also had this shot twice before, in previous years, because my bodily flare ups were horrible and caused great discomfort, even when treated with triamcinolone. I am always covered up and always wearing sunscreen yet I still have a massive breakout. You still don’t wanna give me the shot? Him: … Okay fine we’ll give it to you this one time.
I get it- they’re fucking steroids and they’re dangerous for my young body- but Jesus Christ don’t send me out with this bullshit when I already know how it’ll end, even with covering up, even when slathering myself in sunscreen. I’m gonna break out no matter what, don’t fucking try me on this, don’t tell me how to treat what I experience. Especially if you’ve just met me. 🙄🙄🙄
