This week Ben talks a little about possible complacency after getting several languages to advanced levels already.
Ben offers his opinion on the language/personality change phenomenon with references to French and German.
Is it okay if the color of your voice changes when speaking another language?
Of course! I find that it is very common in fact for a good language learner to have a sort of different kind of voice when they're speaking a new language. My Hindi voice tends to imitate Bollywood actors' voices with their deepness and suaveness. In Spanish, my voice goes a bit higher in pitch and I open my mouth a lot more. When I'm speaking (or rather, trying to speak) in German,  I become a bright-eyed, rather friendly and bubbly person with a voice that reflects that. I'm not sure if there have been objective studies on this kind of thing, but I know I've seen similar things happen to other language learners. In fact, I'm pretty sure Timothy Doner said that he does this very thing during an interview. He described his Russian voice as slightly more tough and deep, if I remember correctly. Also, you can go watch Polyglots of the Week (I would link to their Youtube channel, but Youtube is giving me trouble at the moment). They often upload videos in other languages and you can see how they change when they're speaking the different languages. I've mostly noticed it with polyglotted (Eddie). I can't put my finger on what exactly it is, but I can see a consistent difference between his voice and behavior when talking Arabic from French and English and so on.
What do you all have to say, tumblr?
I'm scared of speaking too.
Also I really need to practise my Spanish more.

Ben offers something of an opinion on fluency and polyglottism.
There's more than one way to skin a cat - you can convince yourself you're doing language practice in a bunch of interesting ways if you try hard enough.
Physical dictionaries vs online dictionaries... which are better?
