AMI Consulting mit Sitz in GB-Bristol hat eine neue Studie über Schwerlastsäcke (ab 25 kg Inhalt) veröffentlicht. Seit dem Jahr 2010 haben Kunststoffsäcke in Bezug auf die Anzahl der Einheiten Papiersäcke überholt. Seither ist der Kunststoffanteil auf fast 55 Prozent gewachsen und wird voraussichtlich bis 2020 auf fast 60 Prozent steigen. Schwerlastsäcke bestehen zumeist aus Polyethylen und werden in Extrusionstechnik hergestellt und gewebt. Mittlerweile umfassen Schwerlastsäcke etwas mehr als 7 Prozent der gesamten Polyethylen-Folienproduktion für Verpackungsanwendungen in Europa. Innerhalb der Polyethylene wird zu über 50 Prozent LDPE eingesetzt.
