Nine years passed and so much changed since that day. The friend that dared you to do it wound up going to prison for aggravated assault once high school ended. You ended up going to college and graduating with a bachelorâs degree in business and moved straight into a pretty decent apartment from there.
However, there were also a few things that didnât change. First off, you were closer than ever to the three that youâd met in your freshman year. Minseok had become an older brother to you, being the guy you went to whenever you need help. Jongdae became your best friend, the brunette spending more time with you than most people do.
As for Yixing, you were actually still dating. Everyone had been sure that as soon as you got to know each other that youâd break up, but you never did. In fact, it actually made you closer than ever. You just celebrated your anniversary by (by both of your choice) taking a small cruise with the others.
You and your boyfriend had moved in together almost as soon as you got out of college and at this point, you couldnât be happier.
âY/N! Did you get more shampoo?â you heard your boyfriend say as he walked down the hall towards the front room, smiling to where you were in front of the front door.
You couldnât help but smile back as he approached you. âYeah, I picked up a couple bottles, theyâre under the sink.â
He hummed, moving behind you and slipping his arms around your middle. âThatâs good...feel like joining me?â
You shook your head. âAs much as Iâd love to, I have plans with Minseok and Jongdae so I have to get ready to head out back out soon.â
Yixing smiled heavily and smiled at you. âAlright, but Iâm calling dibs on later tonight though, Iâm craving cuddles from my baby and Iâm not sure how much longer I can hold off,â he said playfully.
You snorted and pecked his lips, lingering for a moment like you occasionally did. âIâm sure youâll make it. We have to make plans to hang out as a group soon, feels awkward how we keep going off into groups of three.â
He nodded and placed a kiss just below your ear before letting go and moving away. âMaybe. Alright, Iâll go take my shower and let you get ready. Love you.â
You smiled, watching him make his way to the bathroom. âLove you too, have a good shower.â
----------------------------------------------------------
You met up with Minseok and Jongdae at a local cafe, liking to go there since Yixing liked the desserts and Minseok loved the coffee. By the time youâd gotten there, Jongdae and Minseok had already ordered, the older already halfway through his cup.
âHey, sorry Iâm late. Yixing kept me held up.â you greeted, sitting down across from them.
Jongdae hummed in acknowledgment, Minseok snorting. âSame as usual, although itâs not much different with you.â
You rolled your eyes and sat back. âOh shut up. You e with someone for as long as we have and see how you are with them.â you scoffed.
Minseok took a sip of his coffee. âMy longest was a year and a half and I couldnât imagine being like how you and Yixing are with her...â he mumbled.
You couldn't help the snort that escaped you, Minseok looking at you with a look that told you he knew where you were going with it. âThatâs because she just wanted to be able to say she was dating an older guy,â you said, making Jongdae choke on his food.
The elder rolled his eyes. âJust because itâs true doesn't mean you have to remind me,â he grumbled.
Jongdae shrugged. âHey., be happy youâve been in a relationship, donât forget that Iâve been single since high school.â
It was your turn to roll your eyes. âNot without trying. Iâve set you up with so many dates and youâve always come out of it with some issue with the girl. Iâm starting to get the feeling youâre not telling me something.â you said, half teasing him.
An expression crossed Jongdaeâs face that you couldnât quite read. His brows were furrowed, lips falling open before quickly pursing. âLike what?â
You shrugged, running a hand through your hair. âI donât know, you already like someone, youâre gay. Something like that that you wouldnât want me to know for some reason or another,â you said.
The man started to shift uncomfortably. "Donât say stuff like that...â he trailed off.
Minseok let out a heavy sigh. âOkay, how about instead of driving Jongdae to dig a hole and climb in it, why donât we talk about something that actually matters?â
You nodded. âYeah, like how birthday season is going to be coming in a couple months, what should we do for it?â
Ah yes, birthday season. It was what you called the time from Jongdaeâs birthday in September to Minseokâs birthday in March. It was called this because all of your birthdays fell in fairly close order between them, yours sitting between Minseokâs and Yixingâs. Because of this, you would usually have one big event for all of them and smaller parties for each individually.
The three of you shared a mutual look, each of you having relatively the same idea. When you were in your senior year, the four of you decided that once you were all financially stable enough, you would take a trip to the U.S for a week-long vacation in Las Vegas, where you could forget your problems and share a week with you three favorite people getting absolutely plastered.
This is the first birthday season that youâd all had plenty of money saved and money to spend, so all of you knew what was going to happen.
Jongdae scratched the back of his neck. âI think itâs less of a âwhatâ and more of a âwhenâ, seeing as four birthdays are coming up with Christmas amongst them.â
Minseok shugged. âMaybe in like January? We get Christmas and New year out of the way, and it gives us time to plan.â
You nodded. âThat sounds pretty good to me, I just have to talk to Yixing when I get home, make sure he can get some time off work before we start planning actual dates.â
They both nodded in agreement and the conversation continued how it usually did, ending up in talking about how life is and stories of the time apart.
Before you knew it, you were saying your goodbyes and exchanging hugs, a box containing a new cake flavor the cafe was trying out for Yixing in your had as you make your way home.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It was no surprise that you came home to find Yixing softly snoring on the couch, laptop sitting on his stomach. He would often do that, lay down while doing work, claiming that he wasnât even tired enough to sleep, they would be fast asleep within the next ten minutes.
You were extra careful to be quiet, setting the box on the coffee table, then moving the laptop next to it so it wouldnât fall.
After a moment of organizing, you decided to replace it, kneeling between his legs and sliding until your face was nuzzled into his chest.
The extra weight on top of him woke him up, dark eyes soon coming to look at your face. âOh Y/N, youâre home. How was hanging out with the guys?â he asked, hands coming to gently play with your hair.
You smiled. âIt was good. Jongdaeâs still loud and Minseokâs still a smartass, so business as usual. How was your nap?â you asked teasingly.
He huffed. âIt wasnât supposed to be a nap...I was trying to get work done.â
You giggled and kissed his chin. âWell, how was work and how was not doing work?â
Yixing jutted his lip out at you in aa pout. âWorking was good. As for the other thing, youâre not funny,â he said, starting to tickle you.
You erupted into a fit of giggles, desperately trying to fight his hold, squirming in hopes of escaping but it was all in vain. He finally relented once you finally gave in and let out a breathy apology between giggles.
Still trying to catch your breath, you looked up at him. âOh yeah, we talked about the Vegas trip too. We talked about having it in January.â
He laid back down with his eyes closed. âThat sounds amazing...Iâve always been really excited about it, not even because of the drinking and partying weâve planned out but just to have an adventure with you guys. Itâll have a lot of stories to bring back.â
You couldnât help but grin and lightly stroke his cheek with your hand. âYouâre the cutest. And here I was, the thing Iâm most excited about getting shitfaced and pushing Jongdae into a pool. Now I look like a bad friend.â you said with a playful pout.
He laughed. âItâs okay baby, I know that you feel the same as me deep down, that's just not your first thought about it. Probably not either of theirs either. Itâs something I know youâll think about when weâre leaving to come back home.â
You sighed and nuzzled him. âYou're so sweet, honestly the world doesnât deserve youâ
He chucked and kissed your nose. âMaybe not but Iâm glad that Iâm here anyway because since Iâm here, I have you,â he said with a sweet smile.
God, heâs adorable.
