"No legacy is so rich as honesty." ~Shakespeare/*MoonLeaf 3-sided inverted droplet #rockgem ... a lot of names for such a small rock. Lol! #moonleafrocks #littlegems #pocketrocks #littlethings 🍃🏹🍃
Today's pocket rock is Fluorite! This is a beautiful tumbled Fluorite with Psilomelane Dendrites from Chihuahua, Mexico (from my personal collection). (NFS) I love rocks with inclusions! To me, this piece resembles the aurora borealis over a dark forest. I love it, it's one of my favorites in my collection! 💜💚 According to Wikipedia, "Fluorite (also called Fluorspar) is the mineral form of Calcium Fluoride, CaF2. It belongs to the Halide minerals. It crystallizes in isometric cubic habit, although octahedral and more complex isometric forms are not uncommon. Mohs scale of mineral hardness, based on scratch Hardness comparison, defines value 4 as Fluorite. Fluorite is a colorful mineral, both in visible and ultraviolet light, and the stone has ornamental and lapidary uses. Industrially, Fluorite is used as a flux for smelting, and in the production of certain glasses and enamels. The purest grades of Fluorite are a source of Fluoride for Hydrofluoric Acid manufacture, which is the intermediate source of most fluorine-containing fine chemicals. Optically clear transparent Fluorite lenses have low dispersion, so lenses made from it exhibit less chromatic aberration, making them valuable in microscopes and telescopes. Fluorite optics are also usable in the far-ultraviolet range, where conventional glasses are too absorbent for use." #Fluorite, #Psilomelane, #Dendrites, #Dendritic, #inclusions, #natural, #green, #purple, #black, #forest, #trees, #ferns, #lgbt, #gay, #geology, #gemology, #mineralogy, #mineralfacts, #crystals, #stones, #minerals, #gems, #gemstones, #rocks, #pocketrocks, #pocket, #nofilter
Simple #pocketrocks for complicated times: #smokyquartz #heart for protective love, spring green #aventurine for luck & prosperity and just a sweet little #bluelaceagate to help me communicate clearer.
Today's pocket rock is Sodalite from Bahia, Brazil I LOVE this strikingly beautiful Sodalite! To me, it looks like lightning flashing through the night sky! From what I've read, Sodalites from Brazil exhibit a Schiller effect, (which I suspect is likely due to the damp, silica-rich environment it's found in.) According to Wikipedia, "Sodalite is a rich royal blue Tectosilicate mineral widely used as an ornamental gemstone. Although massive Sodalite samples are opaque, crystals are usually transparent to translucent. Sodalite is a member of the Sodalite group with Hauyne, Nosean, Lazurite and Tugtupite. Discovered in 1811 in the Ilimaussaq intrusive complex in Greenland, Sodalite did not become important as an ornamental stone until 1891 when vast deposits of fine material were discovered in Ontario, Canada. Occurring typically in massive form, Sodalite is found as vein fillings in plutonic igneous rocks such as Nepheline Syenites. It is associated with other minerals typical of undersaturated environments, namely Leucite, Cancrinite and Natrolite. Other associated minerals include Nepheline, Titanian Andradite, Aegirine, Microcline, Sanidine, Albite, Calcite, Fluorite, Ankerite and Baryte. Significant deposits of fine material are restricted to but a few locales: Bancroft, Ontario, and Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, in Canada; and Litchfield, Maine, and Magnet Cove, Arkansas, in the US. The Ice River complex, near Golden, British Columbia, contains sodalite. Smaller deposits are found in South America (Brazil and Bolivia), Portugal, Romania, Burma and Russia. Hackmanite is found principally in Mont-Saint-Hilaire and Greenland. Euhedral, transparent crystals are found in northern Namibia and in the lavas of Vesuvius, Italy." #sodalite, #lightning, #nightsky, #blue, #white, #pocketrocks, #wikipedia, #mineralfacts, #mineralogy, #gemology, #geology, #lgbt, #gay, #crystals, #stones, #minerals, #gems, #gemstones, #rocks, #nofilter
