I’m sure that many of you will recognize what’s in the little pots. Raspberry plants, black raspberries to be precise. One of those little bonuses we found at the River House were some established black raspberries. Talk about taste of my childhood. My Dad had transplanted a big patch into our backyard, and my Grandmother’s black raspberry pies were so good! Assuming a 100% survival rate, three of these will be transplanted to another part of the River House property. But at least one will make the journey to back to Virginia. Now why are they next to the house like this? Propagating raspberries requires getting some of the roots and then they have to hang out in the shade for at least a month (no sun at all!). This is the one spot that never gets direct sun and they will still get water from the rain. So, knock on wood, we get enough next year for at least one pie! So, I live in Texas,which means in high school if you don't participate in the annual school homecoming event in some way, you might just be considered lame. Well, my sophomore year I decided to wear a tea-length dress and 3 inch heels with my mum (the out of control fake flower weights that the girls are supposed to ruin their posture with for homecoming). During one of my class periods (Idk which one) I had to go down to the reception office on the first floor from my third floor classroom and had to take the stairs. I'm going down the stairs all good, I'm on the flight when I trip over the back of one of my heels. My very short life flashed before my eyes, which should be scary but this was pathetic because all it made me realize that the almost death I had managed to save myself from that day had been the most thrilling thing in my life up until that point.

"Bitte Lebn" (Please Live) graffiti on top of a building (constructed in '84, design by Alvaro Siza Vieira) in Kreuzberg, Berlin. In contrast to the incredible street art in Berlin, it can seem rather crude and dreadful. However, I see it as a raw reminder to live life to its fullest every minute, to remain in the present, to ground oneself in reality in all its facets, beautiful or dreadful, and be happy with what you have.
