If My children would seek to please Me above all else, fear of others’ judgements would vanish, as would attempts to impress others. Growing up I was always very afraid of what others thought of me. Maybe it came with the Filipino culture and how, for example (just one of the many), it was always doing x to show respect and if you didn’t then Tita/Tito will think you’re disrespectful and that your parents didn’t raise you right. I didn’t really like conflict and if someone thought negatively of me I’d pretty much do whatever I could to change their view of me. (Yes, I know...not healthy nor is that a good mindset to have.) But if we genuinely live to seek the approval only and above all else of God’s then that concern of pleasing others wouldn’t be a problem. Proverbs 29:25 NLT- Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the Lord means safety. Being concerned with what others think could eventually lead to your own downfall. Living to please the Lord and trusting Him is what we should really put in our time and energy into doing. Hopefully I can learn to worry less (ideally not at all) about what others think and focus more on pleasing the Lord with my every thought and action. Matthew 7:1-6 teaches us not to judge others before expecting our own flaws. Everyone has their imperfections. Only Jesus is perfect so stop striving to be perfect and stop trying to please others. Live your life, do what makes you happy; living only to please the Lord. Side note: #PleaseJesus has double purpose here. Please as in please help me, Jesus, a courteous plea for guidance. And please as in only live to please Jesus and seek His approval instead of others’ approval and making them happy.
