In 2022,  I am wondering how any serving PM could lift restrictions and think it okay when they know the pandemic is continuing to spread and we all continue to be affected.

Scientists in the UK have urged Downing Street to reconsider its actions under the current plan to lift all restrictions since the decision could have an overwhelmingly damaging impact in England. (Source: metro.co.uk)

Since the 24th February, 2022 the lifting of restrictions day, we have already seen an unprecedented number of daily cases; in one day it reached a total of 103,000.

On our part, we should continue to ignore what is being asked of us and work on what the science and the scientists are telling us, that masks protect us from catching Covid. The most important measure is the wearing of masks. Please consider wearing a covering in either an enclosed or crowed space.

For thousands of us like me who continue to juggle mental health with our physical issues, we are now permanently confined to our homes. We have lost our liberty by the UK lifting the very measures that are keeping us safe, measures that have proven to keep us safe.

Initially, when the UK PM informed the UK it was lifting all precautionary measures, it was met with dismay from independent scientists. At the time other countries, such as Australia, Greece and Spain were also beginning to question why the UK PM was taking such a measure.

Whilst everyone agrees we have to get on with our lives, to ignore the fact that the virus exists, isn’t clever. When you read about the ever increasing and rising cases in the UK, it is important to think about the virus, your own mortality. Continuing to wear a mask is a small price, if it means it stops you from getting sick. Covid is untreatable, you also have to remember that.

Go with caution, because we all have more to lose if we catch the virus. Also, the more the UK don’t wear masks, the more the vulnerable and the clinically vulnerable will be stuck in their homes.

Politics is a messy business, even messier when it becomes obvious, the decisions that are being taken have nothing to do with common sense and everything to do with appeasing one’s own party to get ahead.

In the longer term of course, lifting all restrictions is a lethal combination and with thousands of vulnerable people are on the other side of that, our struggles continue. Food for thought today, please continue to mask up.
