So, I’ve been thinking about one of the stories that I’m trying to write, and it’s nothing S*nders S*des, I’ve never talked about this au or particular story with anyone.
It’s a world that’s pretty similar to the IRL one, except there is predators, in the vore sense of course. It’s the kind where they have the ability to control other people’s heights, but they don’t have control over their stomachs in this version.
But here’s the thing, I think that the way I want to do it is that Preds are RARE.
Like, literally one in a million. Like literally only roughly eight thousand preds in the entire world.
It doesn’t really follow blood lines either. Yes, preds are more likely to make pred children, but at the same time anyone could randomly pop up as a predator with little to no warning.
Because it’s so rare, preds are really ostracized/demonized in a lot of cultures. (Some may even deny the existence of predators/call them myths or legends) Usually preds keep it quiet what goes on with them, and if people find out it’s a bad thing.
There are things made for preds, of course, in the modern day and age. But the testing phases are usually rushed and they can be a little harmful to the pred.
But I don’t know if there would be any other large societal impacts beyond that? Does anybody have ideas?

For my own peace of mind and for everyone else who has trouble keeping up with whatever the heck I’m talking about. :’)
The Preamble:
In a small tourist town in the Canadian Rockies, a young mother, Celeste lives with her husband and infant daughter. Their cottage sits secluded on the edge of the forest, save for neighbours across the way. While her husband is out on a hunting expedition, she puts her daughter down for a nap. When she returns, she finds the nursery window open, and the cradle empty. Panic stricken, she calls the police and neighbours to help her find her baby.
Her neighbours, Una and Keagan Hennessy, head out into the depths of the woods in the middle of a torrential downpour to scour for the child. They stumble across a clearing, miraculously untouched by the rain. In the midst of it, is a baby. They scoop it up and return to Celeste.
Mindless with relief, Celeste takes up the swaddle. But something’s wrong. A cold finger of dread slides down her spine.
“This is not my baby.”
More plotty stuff under the cut
Violet Lewandowski wishes she could be anywhere else but here, and anyone else but herself. The only two places in the world that bring her a sense of belonging are the forest and the open arms of the Hennessy family. Siblings, Sargent and Indie Hennessy lead such a simple life, full of simple pleasures, Violet can’t help but envy them. They split their time between their home above their mother’s spiritualist shop in town, and their woodland cottage. There’s a spark of magic in the family and places they inhabit Violet’s inexplicably drawn to. And she hopes above all else, that there might be a spark of that magic within her.
Well aware of the bitter reminder Violet brings her adoptive parents of what they’ve lost, Una and Keagan once fought to keep her as their own, and pluck her from a loveless household. But if Celeste Lewandowski will never see her real daughter again, a replacement daughter is better than no daughter at all... Her husband, Marek, remains brutally resentful – he never asked for a child in the first place. Violet’s stuck in the middle of it, and runs to the sanctuary of the Hennessys whenever possible.
If the Lewandowskis are darkness and misery, the Hennessys are lightness and love. A strong practitioner of magic, Una aims to teach her children to send out positive energy into the world. They follow in their mother’s footsteps with magic of their own: Sargent, a gentle siren’s song leading the lost home with nothing but his voice; Indie, a small Cupid, bringing people together under every iteration of love imaginable. Among them, Violet’s a sharp edge with a penchant for anger and violence she can’t tamp down. Despite her potential for hate, Sargent and Indie still love her for who she is, and constantly coax her to find what makes her heart sing.
Her more and more frequent journeys into the forest begin to manifest something strange. An uncanny voice leads Violet on, a lamentation of a girl long lost. She sees herself in this phantom, and knows somehow, finding her and bringing her to rest will lead to her discovery of who she truly is. But the forest plays tricks and the further she wanders, the more the trees weave a completely different world around her.
Swallowed up by the forest’s will, Violet stumbles upon what she suspects is the person she’s been hearing through the trees. Instead, she finds herself face to face with Marnie Marsette, also desperately searching for someone lost. Bound by a common goal, they team up to find what they’re looking for.
Struck by the sudden disappearance of their dearest friend, the Hennessy siblings do everything they can to bring her back. While Indie’s power remains as tried and true a compass as ever, Sargent’s diminishes. His separation from Violet begins to take its toll, and he realises just how much he depended upon her to make sense of his world. For the first time, he's forced to face fears he’s been running from all his life. His voice may be the one thing that could lead Violet back home, but it’s worthless until he can accept the truth of who he is without her first.
