they all went through a one-way portal to a legion world except maul, who was back in UC for official stuff, and they got trapped there. norb needed to make a portal out but since they were literally across the entire universe it was a huge mental strain to actually find azerothâs arcane signature so he kind of had a âgaze into the abyss and it gazes backâ moment trying to find it before managing to use the connection from their shared runes to close the gap, open a successful portal, and then black out in catatonia from seeing too much shit all at once

Ok so, I guess first I wanna ask: I know the Light is a force in the universe like Fel or Shadow is. What I'm curious about is whether there are like, races that aren't able to use the light. Like if someone is sensitive to shamanic magics they train to become one. Would let's say Orcs who historically have no history with the Light, still be sensitive to or able to use the Light?
There are absolutely no known cases of an orc light-wielder (at least in mainstream lore, idk about shit like obscure hearthstone/TCG cards), but there isnât anything particularly barring them from being so. Because of the antagonistic nature of fel and the Light, itâs possible that a fel-tainted orc may have a difficult time of channeling it but if a being powered by Shadow magic like an undead (or a goddamn demon, by current lore) can do it, I donât think it would be impossible.
The Light is primarily based on faith and willpower rather then an objective sense of âgoodnessâ. If you personally believe that you can call on the Light, and are doing so for the right reasons, it will come to youâ this is why they were not able to strip Tirion Fordring of his Light-wielding when he befriended Eitrigg, and also why Scarlets can freely call upon it.
There is one interesting connection though!
The old Draenei ship Genedar crashed into Nagrand and became known to orcs as Oshuâgun the sacred mountain, where shamans would commune with spirits that were drawn there. The orcs did not realize that what drew them there was the Naaru residing within the âmountainâ, and they were unwittingly communing with these energies.
So I guess to answer your question, itâs not common, but the Light is as pervasive as any other primal energy in the universe. Since their exposure to Azerothâs cultures and even alliances with some heavily Light-based factions (there are Orcish argents!), there are probably a small chunk of converts out there.
Light asks, part 2: Having established the mysterious ways the light works, would inability to use the light prevent one from fully becoming a servant of it? Say for instance you have oh, I dunno, an Orc who takes up the cause, but no affinity to the Light does this prevent them from becoming a Priest/Paladin/Anchorite/etc...? And moreover, what kind of social and societal barriers might there be? Thank you again for shedding some light on the Light for me.

Question one: Not at all! The Light is a core religion in a few cultures (particularly humans, Dwarves, High Elves, and Draenei) and certainly not every member of those races is capable of calling on it (with the exception of Draenei, I suppose, who are blessed by the Naaru and can at least call on it for assistance if they canât outright wield it). They remain faithful and abide by the tenets regardless of their place in the clergy.
If you for some reason just absolutely canât call on the Light no matter how hard you try, you canât be a priest or paladin in the definitive class sense. You could still be a warrior who serves the Light, or a member of the clergy, or associate with Light-affiliated organizations (like the orcish Argents). Despite what the Scarlets do, its tenets are respect, tenacity, and compassion-- theyâre not going to turn away someone wanting to do the Lightâs work just because they canât call on it.
There may still be some societal barriers. Respect and compassion or not, there are still the wounds of war and humans/etc. of neutral organizations could possibly still harbor bitterness and racism toward orcs. And likewise, âOld Hordeâ Orc society might shun somebody who has chosen to serve the Light instead of the elements. They might find a few closed doors in their face from both sides, but... thatâs why one of the tenets is Tenacity.
