Waiting for dabi backstory is kind of like trying to get excited to open a present but you already know what's inside because your mom was giving you not-so-subtle hints of what it is :/ like, I KNOW it's a pair of socks but maybe she at least got ones with different pattern or maybe she bought something different after all. But deep down u know it's just socks... All joy of surprise gone
:O !! aw !! im sry the joy isnt there for u anymore !! ive heard a lot of similar opinions abt the touya reveal and i can totally understand where ur coming from. when you’re already aware of certain plot elements but the story drags it out for so long, it can get tiring having to wait for confirmation. it makes you wonder why hk’s utilizing such a long term approach for the reveal. especially when he uses rly obvious identifiers like the blacked out speech bubble in 267
but i personally prefer the touya reveal isnt a big “surprise” .. idk !! its cool to discuss it w/ other people and see what they think about it. i think surprise identities can be really exciting in certain situations (ex: the shirakumo/kurogiri reveal, although it did kinda stumble in requiring vigs knowledge) but other times i think theres a lot of narrative weight behind a not-so-secretive reveal. as in, i think it does a lot of cool characterization for dabi !Â
going off on this idea that ... dabi hasn’t really been granted control over many things in his life, i find it exciting that the one thing he Does have control over (his identity, experiences, etc) is withheld from the reader. i mean obv we have some dramatic irony in that we’re led to believe this pretty early on, but . AHH !! to me i find the joy and excitement ,, not in the big secrecy of it all,, but more in dabi’s decision to reveal. like. what will prompt it, who will be there, what will the reactions be, what does that mean for the villains and heroes alike. what does dabi plan to achieve? will we get backstory? exposition on motive? will the rest of the todofam be involved? AA !! idk ! i just . ooh i like the tension and the build up because we’re getting so much knowledge about dabi that will inevitably contribute to the reveal we’ve all been waiting for so i guess 2 me its a ticking time bomb SJKSFNF i like this idea that we’re at his mercy just like everyone else. that its purely his information to divulge , and that something big is waiting for us on the other end.Â
but AA sry to go off on my own tangent but i totally get what u mean ! i hope that when it does come around , u can find some enjoyment in it somewhere :-)Â
