3. how you feel about your current WIP

AH!! I mean... When I started writing it, I loved it a lot! I felt like the text I wrote for it was going to be good, it'd be a lot more of my style but emphasised. However, I've had a little bit of insecurities regarding it... if it's too much, if it's weird or something like that, but I'm trying to remember that I can write anything I want! Also, I've become blind to it, so I don't know yet what I need to edit in it. Today I actually wrote the first draft for it fully to completion (all the plot and what I need for the fic written down), and I will edit it soon. :)

29. how easy is it for you to come up with titles?

Not easy at all! I often try to search something from the end of the fic, as it would feel nice for the reader to have that realization, and sometimes I find something from the middle or from the start of the story. Something that would summarize the whole feeling of the fic. But if it doesn't feel right, I just cannot use it. It has to be something what I can be proud to call the story with, and sometimes it needs days to sound out before I know it's finally something I like.

So, Some Day, One Day! Ahh that would have to be a Maylor, Friends to lovers, pining fic. I would probably do flashes of scenes from the 1960s to late 1980s progressing the story until they're suddenly realising they're getting older and something has to give.

In the usual fashion, Brian doesn't understand why he's always caught into Roger’s gravitational pull, Roger thinks that's just the way friendship is sometimes…. But as marriages fail, the band faces breaking up, and Freddie's health is waning, the only certainty is their importance to each other.

7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?

I usually read 2-3 books at the same time. One fiction, one non-fiction, and then perhaps a graphic novel. Rn I have three books in my Goodreads currently reading list: a YA novel, a memoir, and one very short monograph.

54. A book that you expected to like but didn’t?

Mhm…Donna Tartt’s “The Goldfinch” perhaps? I was SO excited for that, so yeah. It took me a whole month to finish and tbh, it kinda exhausted me. I did enjoy that part that was basically a novel in a novel, when the main character was a teen in Las Vegas. But then the book kinda lost me. (ok, how to make a fake Chippendale, liked that too, and very handy I must say)

55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?

Hello! I am SO sorry this took so long to get to. I was shaking off the rest of this bug going around and then had to juggle uni and christmas stuff. But here we are!

🎶 Do you listen to music while you write? What song have you been playing on loop lately?

Yes I do! But it depends on a few things at the time of writing, as to whether it’s music with lyrics or classical music. 

Just these last 3 weeks, I’ve listened to KT Tunstall’s version of Mele Kalikimaka on repeat a LOT. 

👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!

Ooh, an UP and coming wip! 

Well i’m desperate to finish my WIP True Love’s Kiss, but as for Up and Coming, it could be one of a few. I’ve got one I’d love to finish sometime soon that’s a Roger sick fic. He’s so very sick that he needs to be in the hospital and there are funny moments and feelings along the way. I haven’t decided whether I want it to be a shippy fic or not...

Another WIP that might be completed next is a Frian fic. Freddie’s not being a very good friend which rather sticks the boot in to poor Brian’s unknown feelings. There is much talk of edible paper!

And another WIP that I hope to complete sometime soon, is another Christmas fic I was hoping to get done for this year’s christmas but alas... Set in the 80s, Queen are asked to go visit a children’s ward/hospital. They have the choice of just handing out the presents the hospital provide… but why do that when they could go on a shopping spree in Hamleys?

11) what’s a song that your favorite band doesn’t perform live, but you really wish they would?

Okay so before seeing the shires the other night and the shires was coincidentally the last concert I went to pre pandemic too, I haven't actually seen my top favourite bands since I was into McFly. I've never seen Queen. I saw the Waterboys on their Modern Blues tour and I was gutted that they didn't play November Tale so if I ever see them again, I'd really like them to play that. I don't know what Q+AL have on their setlist and I'm unlikely to ever see them live.

33) do you wear a lot of band t-shirts? if so, do you like it when strangers comment on them?

I don't actually. I have the Brian t-shirt in the style of the Flash tshirt but I'm short and fat and most band tshirts hang wrong on me so I don't normally bother. One friend saw the Brian t-shirt and said "You're name's not Brian" so I explained it and that was that haha

G: Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

A bit of both? I usually write the story in order, but will skip scenes I get stuck on, and then I go back and fill the scenes where I can, when I can, until it’s done. If there’s a scene/chunk of dialogue I have that’s clear as day in my head, and probably the whole reason I’m writing the fic in the first place, I will write with the aim of getting to that scene first and only after that do I allow myself to go back and fill in any blanks.

I: Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?

Hurt/comfort.

O: How do you begin a story–with the plot, or the characters?

Usually the characters, because I usually think of dialogue first or ship first, and then I try and find the plot to fit them into. Except my knitting fics, which are plot first. Although the plot is basically “someone is knitting, and it ends in friendship/love”

Another day, another photoshoot.

Freddie tried his best not to sigh. It was the job, their bread and butter (and then some), and really, it wasn't as though he minded it. He thrived on it. There was no one better than him at being Freddie Mercury…

The photographer had directed them all to stand as close together as possible. John was a solid, reassuring presence on his right side, his back wedged tightly against the wall. Freddie wasn't sure he had moved a muscle throughout; well, maybe to laugh at one of Roger's jokes.

On John's other side, Brian was saying something. Freddie turned his head a bit, and was rewarded by John's hair tickling his cheek.

He fidgeted. He would kill for a smoke, or just for something to do with his hands. How much longer…?

And then he felt it. On his other side, Roger had rested his head on Freddie's shoulder. More hair in his face, Freddie thought wryly, not forgetting the hair gel.

But it felt nice, too. Comforting. A great wave of affection for Roger flooded through Freddie. He was honestly at least two thirds cat, seeking touch and closeness even when they were already squashed together.

And he always knew, too, when Freddie needed reassurance. Or anything else, really.

Feeling better already, he carefully leaned towards Roger, returning the affection. Taking solace in one another.

The camera shutter clicked eagerly.

14. Montreux

He walked along the quay, taking in the lake glimmering in the sun, and the people passing by. There was a smell of something sweet in the air, floating on a breeze.

He remembered other times here, walking along the same way. Merrily drunk, with the lights of the town reflected in the water… and in the bitter autumn rain, rain lashing down on their sorry gathering.

Directly overhead, a gull cried, startling him.

All that was in the past. Over and done with.

He carefully avoided looking straight in front of him. He knew where he was going, there was no need to rush it. Instead he took in the buildings on the steeply rising hillside, and the mountains, blue in the distance on the far side of the lake.

The others were back at the hotel; they would have come with him, but some things he had to do alone.

He was almost there. The day was beautiful, and the sunlight on the water was almost blinding, even with his dark glasses.

Just a few steps more. He stopped and looked up.

"Hello, old friend," Roger whispered.
