as a dirty little trans man myself  –

there’s nothing wrong with HCing a character as trans without any canonical proof or evidence suggesting it;  that being said, though, there’s definitely a line where you can take that shit way too fucking far.  if you erase a characters’ dominant canonical personality traits to the point where their gender is their ENTIRE identity, you’re doing that character a disservice.  that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t integrate it into their dialogue, that doesn’t mean you can’t write about it or talk about it a lot, that’s not what i mean at all;  what i mean is that their gender is something that should be discussed as often and as in-depth as you like, but not predominantly focused on 100% of the time.  that aspect should be part of them, and should be developed and mentioned IN ADDITION TO the multiple other rich, complicated aspects of their character.  trans representation is great, but remember that you’re not just writing a trans person  –  you’re writing a complete, multifaceted person who happens to be trans.  that can be a major or minor part of their story, personality, etc.  …  but it’s not all they are, and if you make it all they are, then that’s just laziness and two-trait reduction with the word  “progressive!!!”  slapped onto it.  that kind of shit dehumanizes us even worse than society already does  –  and believe me, society doesn’t need any fucking help with that.

cis people who have never struggled with their gender identity and expression really shouldn’t write trans characters.  period.

Bail: Without being a Senator on Coruscant and he and Bre going through the same number of miscarriages, he doesn’t fall into the bottle like he does in canon or in Witness me.  He’s mostly a businessman, handling the Estate’s interests when his mother retires; his position as Viceroy and Prince doesn’t actually give him any real power, whereas being a Senator would have.

Breha: She follows essentially the same arc as she did in canon, but here, Mazi lived a lot longer, so when Breha took the throne from her, she did so from a living Queen, in a planned hand-off, instead of taking it upon Mazi’s death.  And I think this has given her a stronger platform to stand on; she was legitimate in canon, no doubts, but I think having the open, living support of Mazi -- who was a popular queen -- gives her an extra boost of confidence when dealing with dissenting factions.  She’s a little less apt now to be diplomatic when they cross her, where in regular canon, she had to juggle a lot of things in order to keep Alderaan smelling like roses while secretly funding and hiding Rebels.

Maul: Has an undeniable bond to his adopted homeworld, and not just emotionally.  Maul’s never been a slack in the Force power department, not in canon or Legends or anywhere, but in GoT:A, he actively stopped using it after hurting Bail once early on.  But that sensitivity was still there, obviously, it doesn’t just go away.  And while he doesn’t realize it, during high stress times, he actually influences the kriffing planet; we see the weather react to him in Strays, and an avalanche outright go around him and none of this is conscious on his part, all of it’s subconscious.  Obi-Wan observes at one point that Maul loves Alderaan, and the world loves him back, and I think that’s as true as anything could be.
