Rick didn't have to do this, he could have left but instead-
He gave this stranger's daughter some peace of mind. Because I'm willing to bet hearing her through the door made him think of his own daughter Beth, and he couldn't just walk away. That's one of the things I've been enjoying about Rick Sanchez as a character. Yeah he's terrible sometimes, can be a mean old prick and selfish but beneath all that there is still a part of him that cares.
More than he's willing to ever admit.
He cares about things deeply, things most people would never think he'd ever care about. Whenever he has these moments, he actually reminds me of Morty with him caring. Because whenever he does actually care, he puts his all into it just like Morty.
It's interesting to see this old man who's lost everything still care about people despite the horrors.
It makes him stronger than most people.
