your austerlitz and prague posting are making me feel demented!! i find it truly fascinating that greg of his own volition organises a meeting with logan and makes a pretty big request - and logan immediately puts him on the big logan chess board to test him. like there’s that logan line about greg in the pilot draft ‘i like him. i think he might be a little shit underneath it’.
Succ has so many spectacular runs of episodes but Austerlitz and Prague being right next to each other really is above and beyond. So much happens! So much! We are told more about everyone's back stories between these two episodes than we get across the entirety of the rest of the show how am I supposed to be normal while watching them?
Listen if there's one thing Greg can be counted on to do, it's snitch (see: him telling everyone Tom swallowed his load) so of COURSE he goes to Logan with his Tom problems but also! From the very first episode Greg has been asking Logan for the moon. He doesn't see his great uncle as an unscalable wall he sees him as a path to something greater. I have So Many thoughts about Greg as an embroeal form of Logan (see the big old fic I wrote about it:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the
Organization for Transformative Works
) but to pick up on one thing here, Kendall is so right in Austerlitz when he says that Logan is jealous of everything he's given his kids. But Greg is family and Logan doesn't have to be jealous of him because Greg grew up relatively poor (very very relatively. Greg did not actually grow up poor in a way the average person would recognise. How can a multi millionaire family be poor? The Canadian Roys will show you). So when Logan sees bits of himself in Greg, like him being a piece of shit, he's able to see it for what it is rather than deciding its just a poor copy of something he has already mastered that his children are just trying to parrot back at him
Anyway possibly got very off topic? These two episodes, man. How does this show manage to keep giving so very much on every rewatch?
