                                               RAVEN   EMBLAZONED   OVER   HIS      breast,          marking  him  APART  as  an  aglionby  boy,          a  RAVEN  BOY,          he  should  feel  pride.            he’s  FOUGHT  hard  for  all  he  has,        earned  it  by  pressing  nose  to  grindstone,           PULLING  himself  up  by  fraying  bootstraps.             but  he  doesn’t  notice  the  emblem  setting  him  ABOVE  what  he  should  be.           instead  notices  the  FRAYING  edges,             picks  at  them  with  fingernails  caked  with  virginia  dust.             it  doesn’t  matter  how  he  SCRUBS,            he  knows  they’ll  never  be  clean. 

a  sigh  is  HEAVED  as  he  glances  up,            fingers  wrapping  around  the  strap  of  his  bag,          tugging  it  FARTHER  up  his  shoulder  as  he  walks.          GANSEY’D  given  him  a  ride  to  classes  this  morning,        but  GANSEY  was  called  away  for  some  campaign  thing  or  some  new  idea  of  HENRY’S,           so  he  was  left  to  walk.           but  with  the  SUN  beating  down,             he  needs  to  stop,             to  find  SOMETHING  to  drink  before  it  gets  the  best  of  him.            he’s  been  in  the  HOSPITAL  too  often  lately  to  risk  another  time.             they  won’t  CALL  it  a  coincidence  so  soon.           

so  he  scrounges  together  what  little  CHANGE  is  in  his  pocket,           slipping  into  a  cafe  to  get  the  FIRST  thing  he  sees  that  he  can  afford.            then  he  looks  around,           sighing  when  he  sees  the  place  is  FULL  of  others  just  like  him,            taking  whatever  RESPITE  from  the  heat  they  can.          no  raven  boys,            of  course.        THEY’D  all  have  nice  air  conditioned  cars,          have  no  NEED  of  a  shoddy  cafe  to  keep  cool.          so  he  PICKS  another  table  at  random,         finding  an  EMPTY  seat      &&      standing  awkwardly  near  it.                ‘      is  this  TAKEN  ?      ‘
