ronan doesn’t touch his phone, not unless there is an absolute reason for it, and even then it’s done in the quickest way. which is why he had never thought about contacting adam when he set out on the seven hour trip. just him and the open road; hitting a small town every now and then, but that hadn’t slowed him down, not when there wasn’t anyone on the streets.
right now it was him and the open road and the low thump of a bass line.
it’s seven hours between him and home, and while he doesn’t like venturing too far from the barns this trip is well deserved, and for a few days the barns should be okay. it doesn’t take him long to figure out where to park, getting out and starting for the dormitory his boyfriend has been put in, and he stands in the lobby, finally putting the phone to his ear and waiting for the other to answer.
EXHAUSTION SEEPS INTO HIS bones, c h i l l i n g him with deadened fingertips WRAPPED around the base of his spine. thorns prick into each thought, NASTY things, shredding the ideas, laying WASTE to equations, until all he’s just read is a bleeding MESS in the corner of a hazy mind. still, he does NOT admit defeat, does NOT move from the uncomfortable chair in the coldest corner of the library, his self imposed prison until he’s MEMORIZED all he needs to. he’d thought he could BREATHE once the acceptance letter came, once the SCHOLARSHIP was in, once he knew he had m a d e it. he’d forgotten that COLLEGE was a new trial in and of itself, not SIMPLY an end.
the BUZZING of his phone by his ear startles him into wakefulness, shaking the table, VIBRATIONS tickling his cheek where it rests on the TABLE beside the device. he hadn’t even realized he’d fallen ASLEEP, hates himself a little bit for letting himself. he GROANS, inspiring glares from other woe begotten students akin to himself, && picks up, sleep shaken hand holding the phone LAZILY to his ear as he grunts out a groggy hello. he sounds DRUNK, or dead, but not much can be DONE about that.
