When Harry had decided to organise this project with his seven-year-old students, the idea of getting to take a peek into Malfoyâs world had merely been a passing thoughtâhad barely gotten a giggle out of him before the thought left him entirely.Â
Now, though, as he carefully turned the pages of Scorpiusâ colourful, sparkly, and only mildly sticky scrapbook, Harry had no choice but to admit he was overflowing with emotion.
The first images were of Scorpius as a babyâof Scorpius sleeping; of him stretching a hand out to pet a small, brown dog that wagged its tail so fast the picture was blurry, of him beaming so hard his smile dimpled his face. Draco only appeared in a few of them, sometimes alongside Astoria, sometimes alone with his son. And when he did, he was always happy: he was bright, and joyful, and so, so very in love with his son, and Harry found himself smiling alongside this younger version of his former nemesis.
In the following pictures, as Scorpius grew into a tireless toddler and then a small, gleeful kid, Draco still smiled. He smiled as he sat the boy on his shoulders, as he taught him to ride a childâs broom, and as he rode the funfair rides by his side, and it was clear in the way he looked at Scorpius that the boy was his whole world.Â
Yet he didnât look happy anymore. His smile reached his eyes when he looked at his son, the both of them sat across whomever had taken the picture on the ferris wheel, but at the end of the looping picture, when Draco looked away from Scorpius and down at the city through the bars, his smile faded just a second too quicklyâthe brightness in his eyes dwindling and giving way to a tiredness that had Harryâs brow furrowing.
At the ferres weal with Daddy, Scorpius had written underneath the picture.Â
The tiredness seemed to slowly take hold of Malfoyâs eyes over the next few pictures. Ferst day of skool with Mummy, another picture read, and then the next said Hollidays in Frans with Daddy, and Harry realised Draco and Astoria were never together in the pictures anymore. Looking more closely, he noticed their ring fingers, once adorned with golden bands, were now bare, and Astoriaâs own smile, once as radiant as her former husbandâs, was now a frail little gesture reserved only for the moments her son looked up at her.
Harry turned the pages, and, after a couple of pictures of Scorp with Goyleâs little girl and on his own, he found an image that had his heart pounding and his breath catching.
In the picture, Scorpius sat on his dadâs shoulders and waved a small rainbow flag in the air. Draco, dressed in a Muggle band T-shirt and what looked like the beginning of tight black jeans, grinned and laughed as he waved at the camera. His eyes crinkled with pure mirth as his son screamed something and bounced on his shoulders, and Harry found himself holding his breath waiting for the loop to start over, waiting to catch the exact moment happiness washed over Draco.
On Dracoâs chest, a big pride flag badge glistened under the June sun.
At the Pride Perade with Daddy, Scorpius had written. Underneath, in an attempt at a smaller handwriting, heâd added, Im verry happy when Daddy is hapy.Â
The scrapbook concluded soon after, with only a couple of pictures from Scorpiusâ first few weeks in year two.Â
Harryâs emotions, though, far from concluding, followed him around the rest of the day, simmering, then bubbling at random times and taking Harryâs breath away.Â
Heâd suspectedâhopedâMalfoy liked men since the beginning of the school year. From the first few weeks, heâd noticed a vague, annoying feeling of longing that lingered deep within his chest whenever Draco picked Scorpius up from school and he got to wave them goodbye, and although at first heâd blamed it on his life-long obsession with the git, the truth was those feelings had steadily grown closer to butterflies in the stomach than to mere curiosity and annoyance.Â
But the confirmation that Draco was gay, alongside the beautiful, captivating, addictive joy heâd found in Dracoâs eyes in that one picture at the Pride Parade, had taken Harry completely off-guard, and when he closed his eyes that night he couldnât help but go over the images in his mind again. He couldnât help but hug his pillow a little closer to his chestâcouldnât help but think of Dracoâs smile, Dracoâs eyes; Dracoâs soft voice whenever he asked Scorpius how his day had been and his absent-minded wave in Harryâs direction before taking his sonâs hand and walking away. As sleep slowly claimed him, he thought of Dracoâs lean fingers, and his fitted robes, and the small wave his fringe made above his left eyebrow that always made Harry wonder if he twirled it with a finger when no one was looking.Â
The next day, when Draco peeked around the classroom door in search of Scorpius, Harry breathed in deeply and walked his way, silently thanking all the kids saying bye to him and keeping him from having to look at Draco till he was already by his side.
âHey,â he said, feeling giddy and only slightly foolish.Â
âHello,â Draco said, a note of mild surprise in his voice.Â
Scorpius was still tidying up his materials and chatting Roseâs ear off, and Harry watched him instead of Draco when he said, âScorpiusâ scrapbook was very original. I liked it a lot. Iâm assuming you helped?âÂ
âWas that not allowed? He told meââÂ
âNo, noââ Harry mentally hexed himself. Repeatedly. âI mean, yes, it was allowed. Itâs justâit was funny to imagine Malfoy Manorâs regal dining table covered in glitter and purple glue as you two worked on it. Thatâs all.âÂ
Mortified by his own words, he glanced in Dracoâs direction, half-expecting to find him gaping at Harry like heâd grown Erumpent ears. What he found, though, was amusement, which made Dracoâs beautiful grey eyes shine in much the same way they had in some of the scrapbook pictures. Except nothing in those pictures couldâve prepared Harry for the actual sight of those joyful eyes staring right at him.Â
âWe did it in his room, actually,â Draco said, and then he extended a hand to take Scorpiusâ ladybird schoolbag and kissed his son on the cheek.Â
âOh. Of course.â
Why couldnât Earth just swallow him already?Â
Dracoâs smile widenedâdue to Harryâs awkwardness or Scorpiusâ presence, Harry didnât know.Â
âAre we going to the park, Daddy?â Scorpius asked. âIâm reeeeeally hungry and I really want to go on the swings!âÂ
âWe are, darling.â He ruffled his sonâs hair. âBye, Mr Potter,â he added, flashing that dizzying smile back at Harry and almost making him sway on the spot. âItâs been nice chatting with you.âÂ
âBye, Mr Potter!â Scorpius bellowed, taking his dadâs hand and starting to walk away.Â
âSee you tomorrow,â Harry called back, feeling all kinds of awkward and woozy and dumb.
Draco looked back at him and, with what Harry could swear was a quick wink that was definitely paired with a smirk, he said, âTill tomorrow.â

Summary:Â After an Auror raid gone wrong, Draco ends up trapped in a dodgy safehouse with nothing but Harry Potterâs dubious company and a dwindling supply of food. With only each other and the walls surrounding them, they're forced to confront their past and their feelings which have long been threatening to boil over.
Harry is Head Auror for two years and Draco also works for the Ministry, although not in the DMLE
They talk to each other each day, although itâs basically light bickering. Also, Draco sometimes shows up in Harryâs office just to bicker some more (obviously, itâs not just because he likes to see Potter, of course not)
They have been pinning over each other for years, which itâs pretty obvious to everyone else, but they donât realize it or at least donât want to admit it even to themselves
However, it is becoming harder each day to deny how they think the other is hot af
But yeah, back to dancing business: The ministry hosts a ball that both Draco and Harry have to go
At first everything is fine for Draco, I mean, itâs definitly not his first ball and heâs feeling rather confident in his grey suit, wandering through the tables (because obviously he arrived early). Besides, even if Potter does come, heâs probably going to show up in some jeans and a muggle shirt so itâs fine
Except itâs not fine. Because Harry actually shows up in these black robes with silver lining and a waistcoat, and Draco is just about to pass out with how flustered he is by just seeing Harry looking like that
And of course. Of course they had to sit at the same table. So they bicker, and argue, and get in each other nerves, basically because neither can deal with how hot the other looks, so theyâre all flustered and irritated
Finally, the dance starts
Suddenly, Draco remembers how uncomfortable Harry was in the Yule Ball, in their 4th year, and he decides that he will gain the upper hand
So, he says âfuck itâ and invites Harry to dance. For one hand, he knows Potter isnât good at dancing and will humiliate himself, but on the other hand, he asks it as a challenge and he knows he will never back down from one, especially coming from Draco
Harry hesitates for just a single second, staring at the hand Malfoy is offering and trying to understand why, but then heâs grabbing said hand and is led by Draco to the centre of the room
Draco is already feeling the victory because there is no way Potter can escape now and just as he stops to start leading the danceâŠ
Harry pulls him close, not even a centimetre of air between them, and immediately snakes and arm around Dracoâs waist, falling in step with the music
And oh shit. Ohhhhh shit. Draco is in so much trouble because it shouldnât go like this. Potter isnât supposed to know how to dance from all things. Potter isnât supposed to be so close to him. Potterâs hand isnât supposed to be so gentle in Dracoâs lower back. Potterâs lips arenât supposed to be so close to his ear, the ghost of a breath making Draco shiver and fault a step that Harry quickly helps him recover. Potter isnât supposed to be making Draco realize how much he wants him, because damn it, this is Potter. Potter who saved the fucking wizarding world, Potter who used to blow up cauldrons in potions, Potter who he teased mercilessly for years and years, and Potter who. Shouldnât. Know. How. To. Dance.
But then, safe in Harryâs arms, Draco starts to realize he doesnât really care anymore that Potter had the upper hand again, that Potter managed to surprise him once more. Because this is Potter. Whom he fell in love with.
And then Harry is pulling him closer, breaths becoming deeper as the music comes to and end. Harry finally finishes with the famous dip and Draco is left breathless, only Harryâs arms stopping him from falling to the floor and not even a centimetre separating their lips
Harry is not moving but suddenly his lips are, and Draco has to focus again so he can hear what Harry is saying
âWhile all you wanted was to humiliate me once again, Draco, all I wanted was to have you in my armsâ
Harry then straightens himself, helping Draco, turns and leaves
It takes a few moments for Draco to take everything in, to realize what just happened and how stupid he had been. And then Draco is finally moving again, but he doesnât know what to do, he just knows he has to get to Harry
He spots Harry leaving the ball but thereâs too much distance separating them, so he loses him out of sight. He starts to panic until he remembers itâs Harry weâre talking about. He doesnâtâ even think twice before heâs moving again, this time out of the ball and into a now desert corridor that would lead directly to the elevators. Thatâs when he sees him, right on the elevator that begins to close. Draco shouts his name and Harry turns his head just in time for Draco to see the surprise in the green eyes
The elevator closes and starts moving but hell, Draco isnât going to wait so he just goes for the stairs
By the time he arrives at the Head Aurorâs office his panting but damn it, he isnât going to stop now. So he just bursts in, finding Harry sat at his desk, head in his hands
It takes a few moments before Harry looks up, because he already knows whoâs in front of him, he just really needed to gather the courage to face Draco
The âIâm sorryâ is about to leave Dracoâs mouth when Harry cuts him first, saying he doesnât need Draco to apologize since Harry made a fool of himself alone
But this time. This time Draco just says âFuck itâ because he passed the last months, maybe years, wanting nothing but Harry and always being afraid to admit it. So really, fuck it, and he just rounds the desk and kisses Harry.
From there, really fluffy things are said and they both discover a new kink for sex in Harryâs desk (because come on, we all know Draco would love to be fucked in a desk, itâs practically canon, right?)
â...And weâre still unsure whether the situation will be safe enough for us to marry in spring, so thatâs why we havenât organised much yet. Donât worry, youâll be the first to know as soon as we have a date.â
Harry, mind still fuzzy with sleep, empty mug in hand, stopped in his tracks by the living room door. Had he heard right?
âWe understand, Draco,â came Narcissaâs voice from the Floo. âBut you must understand our concerns, too.â
âI do, mother. But you know this was necessary.â
âWe do,â Lucius said. âThe most important thing is that weâre all safe right now, even if we missed having you home last night.â
Harry didnât hear the end of the conversationâdidnât notice Draco walking into the kitchen a minute later; he was too busy frowning at the kettle.Â
âMorning,â said Draco from behind him. âDidnât know you were up.â
âDidnât know you were engaged,â Harry said without thinkingâwithout turning around, without even understanding why he didnât want to turn around; didnât want Draco to see the whirl of emotions unravelling in his chest.
Harry shook his head, eyes still fixed on the kettle.Â
âNot on purpose.â His words came out strained, and he cursed himself inwardly. Why did he even care? It wasnât like Dracoâs personal life was any of his business. Sharing a flat didnât make them friends, now did it? No matter how much Harry had grown to enjoy having the git around all the time, and watching him fall asleep while they watched telly together at night, and getting to see Dracoâs tousled hair in the morningsâ
Draco sighedâa slow, heavy soundâand leaned against the counter beside him. Harry did look up at him then, and the maelstrom of emotion probably still all over his face came to an abrupt halt when he realised Draco was holding back a giggle.
âIâm not engaged, Potter,â he said, grin widening. âYou look really upset at the idea, though. Itâs a cute look on you.â
Dracoâs mirth was beautiful, and so, so good at softening Harry from inside out. Still, Harry crossed his arms over his chest with an indignant huff, grumbling, âSod off, I thought you were keeping an engagement from me!â When Draco only laughed at him, he added, âWhy on Earth do your parents think youâre engaged, then?âÂ
âIâll tell you,â Draco said through another giggle, âbut donât murder me. Iâm the best Auror partner youâll ever have.â
Harry just raised his eyebrows at himâcuriosity and concern mixing with a subtle hint of betrayal that refused to fade away just yet.
âShut up, you giant prick. The thing is, they firmly believe people must live with their parents or on their own until they marry. Sharing a living space with anyone other than your spouse isâŠimproper to them. Iâm sure I donât need to go into detail as to why.â
âYou really donât,â Harry said, grimacing.Â
âSo when I told them I was moving in with you temporarily, I sort ofâŠkind ofâŠhad to tell them we were engaged, and the only reason I was moving in with you before getting married was that we wanted to wait until the pandemic was over to have a big wedding with all our loved ones.â
To Harryâs credit, he didnât drop the mug full of piping hot coffee all over himself.
He did gape at Draco for a good three seconds, though.
âYour parents think weâre engaged?â
âThatâs what I said, yes.â Draco had the decency to look sheepish, at least. âIf itâs any consolation, they also trust me to remain chaste until my wedding night, so they donât think you and I haveââ
âOh my god.â
âI would never, anyway. They raised me well.â
âStop. Shut up.â Harry rested the mug on the kitchen tableâsat heavily on a chair, gaze unfocused. âBut didnât you explainââ
âI did explain to them I was moving in with you because we work together and itâs safest to have you as the only person in my bubble so I donât put them at risk, yes. They argued I had enough money to rent a place for myself, and I panicked and told them you and I had plans to marry anyway, so it wasnât all that bad, since they trust me to wait until my wedding night toââÂ
âYeah, yes, got it.â Harry pressed his eyes closed, desperately trying to will images of a virginal Draco Malfoy draped over a white king-sized bed from his mind. âWere you planning on telling me any of this? Youâve been here for weeksâŠâÂ
âI was, of course.âÂ
Harry side-eyed him.
âItâs justâI guessâŠI was waiting for the right time to tell you, and it never really came up. And donât give me that look! Remember how long it took you to tell me you werenât dating Ginny anymore?âÂ
âThatâs different!â Harry said.Â
âPotter, you let me send both of you a Christmas card as though you were a couple and replied to it with her because it felt too awkward to tell me youâd broken up!âÂ
Harry took a sip of his coffee to avoid Dracoâs gaze.Â
âThat may be true,â he muttered eventually, when he looked up at Draco again and found him still looking expectantly at him. âBut this involves me directly. I mean, what if Iâd answered a Floo call from them while you were in the bathroom and theyâd brought up the engagement?âÂ
âExcuse you, I never schedule anything at bathroom hours!âÂ
âI...donât want to know what that means.â Would it be too much for him to bury his face in his arms and fall right back asleep? âWhat are we going to do now?âÂ
âWe wait until lockdown is over and pretend weâve broken up and are no longer engaged, of course.âÂ
âWhat, so your parents hate me forever?â Harry asked. âNo, thank you!â
âWhat do you mean, no thank you? The alternative, in case you hadnât noticed, is to marry me, Potter!âÂ
âYouâre making my year start with a headache,â Harry groaned. âI hope youâre happy.âÂ
Dracoâs grin was definitely not worth the sacrifice.Â
***
âHarry! What a delight to finally be able to talk to you. Draco says youâve been busy with work matters lately.âÂ
âY-Yeah, itâs been chaos,â Harry said, resisting the urge to glare at Draco and hoping Narcissa couldnât see the puzzle sitting on the coffee table or the stack of movies by the sofa through the Floo. âIâm really glad to see you, too.â Fuck, thatâd sounded awfully awkward. âHappy new year, by the wayâletâs hope itâs a better one.âÂ
âOh, Iâm sure it will be. The year an offspring gets married is always among the best of a motherâs life.â
âRight. Of course.â Add âupsetting Narcissa terriblyâ to the list of reasons to curse Draco.Â
âAnd I imagine it will be an even happier year for you two, especially if a future heir is in the picture by the end of it!âÂ
ADD âALMOST CHOKING TO DEATH ON MY SALIVAâ TO THE LIST OF REASONS TOâ
âMother, please, I think itâs a little bit to early for thatââÂ
âI know, I know, sorry.â She didnât sound sorry at all. âIâm just really excited for you, my Draco. Youâve wanted this for so longâŠâ
Harryâs heart skipped a beat.Â
âHarry, you are one very lucky man, I hope you know that,â Narcissa went on, oblivious to the look Harry and Draco were sharingâthe colour drained from Dracoâs cheeks, a breath caught in Harryâs lungs. âI do hope you will be taking the Malfoy name, too! It would be an honour to have you as a part of our family treeâŠâ
She went on about the Sacred Twenty-eight for what seemed like forever, and Harry was only vaguely aware of Draco interrupting her with the excuse they had to get back to work and ending the call after a round of good-byes.Â
For a moment, they both stared into the faceless flames.Â
âYouâre not going to buy it if I tell you I really do need to get back to work, right?â Draco said after a moment, voice low.Â
âYou know the answer to that.âÂ
Draco huffed.Â
âWell, then, go ahead and ask what you want to ask. Donât make me suffer for longer than necessary.âÂ
Harry sneaked a glance in Dracoâs direction. Unlike a few moments before, his face was a dark shade of red, hand clutching the edge of the carpet, knees drawn close to his chest.Â
âI donât want to ask if you donât want to tell me,â Harry murmured, looking back into the flames.Â
âItâs not like I can Obliviate you,â Draco retorted. âYou heard what you heard.â
Harry nodded.Â
âThat youâve wanted me for a very long time.â
Draco didnât reply.Â
Harry glanced at Dracoâs hand again, now playing nervously with the fringe of the carpet, and, after a moment of hesitation that faded with his next exhale, he reached out and rested his hand on it. Dracoâs fingers stilled under his touch, and Dracoâs eyes found hisâwide, scared, vulnerable.Â
He dared run the tips of his fingers over Dracoâs knuckles, and his own breath caught when he heard Dracoâs hitch.Â
âDracoâŠâ Harry started, not knowing what he was even going to say. âThe past few weeks have been⊠theyâve beenââ
âDonât,â Draco said, voice strained. âDonât. Justââ He looked away again. âJust tell me you just want to be colleagues and be done with it, please.âÂ
âMaybe thatâs not what I want.â He slipped his fingers between Dracoâs soft own; squeezed them gently. âMaybe what I want isnât so different from what you want. You donât know whatâs going on inside my mind. You have no idea what the past few weeks have meant to me.âÂ
Draco didnât move under his touchâdidnât seem to move at all, except for the quick, uneven rise and fall of his chest. When he talked, the words came out quickly, in a whisper, as though he was terrified to hear himself say them.
âWhat are you saying, Potter?â
âWhat Iâm saying is I want more of this. More puzzles, and movies, and more of your way-too-salty chicken soup, and more evenings and mornings by your side. Iâm saying I hadnât realised until very recently how much I want more of you, Draco. But I do. Merlin, I do.âÂ
A sound somewhere between a whine and a choked cackle came out of Dracoâs throat.
âYou sound like Iâve actually proposed to you, you idiot,â he groaned. Harry rolled his eyes at him, squeezed his fingers yet again.
âIâm being serious!â he said, unable to hold back a laugh. âDonât laugh at me!â
âI know,â Harry murmured. âBut it doesnât have to be. Things donât have to be so different now. I mean, we already work together and weâve been having movie nights every Saturday for, what, three years now? And now we live under the same roof, we cook meals together, we fall asleep together on the couchâŠMerlin. Weâre already like a married couple, arenât we?â Harry said, horrified. âNo wonder your parents bought the engagement story!â
âWait till I tell you they were actually surprised it hadnât happened soonerâŠâ
Harry buried his face in his knees to stifle a groan.
âCome on,â he said after a moment, and stood up still holding on to Dracoâs hand. âLetâs make some lunch and pretend like this wasnât the most embarrassing conversation weâve ever had.â
Dracoâs fingers were still comfortably hooked around his as they made their way to the kitchen.

Every sip is a time turner, taking me back to a crowded common room when we still had the recklessness of childhood and were running from the unwanted expectations of being adults. You bounced in time to the beat, everything I wanted and couldnât have â except for that night.
This has been in my drafts for weeks because Iâm not happy with it but since i canât get on the computer to format my next ones the way I want (thanks mobile @staff), Iâm posting it anyway.
He didnât let either of them act on it.
Each time Harry had the audacity to step into his space, to tilt his head up just slightly, to let the want creep into his eyes, Draco did what he was supposed to do. He subtly shifted back, changed the subject, lightly teased Harry about getting lost in his head.
Each time he caught himself indulging in little touches here or there â straightening Harryâs tie before meetings, smoothing of lapels before fundraisers, brushing lint off his robes â Draco would remind himself that he they couldnât cross that line.
Every time Harry casually mentioned grabbing dinner that Friday, slid too close to him in the booth at the pub, or offered to walk him home, Draco did what he was supposed to do. He invited Pansy or Blaise, he scooted away or even let somebody sit between them, he suddenly remembered he had to floo to his mumâs.
Each time Draco caught himself staring at Harryâs lips, imagining what it would be like to grab his collar and haul him in for the kiss theyâd both been waiting for, he forced himself to walk away, to slowly brew a cup, and remind himself that fraternizing between coworkers would get him fired.
He didnât let either of them act on it, but he wasnât sure how much longer before he gave in.
Lips pressed against his, whispers in the dark, slipped casually into a sentence, punctuating all of my goodbyes. Like I donât shout it, scream it, sob it.
He acts like it doesnât matter.
Like I donât turn down dates, slip out of obligations early just in case he makes time for me. Like I donât plan my entire life around the faintest promise of what could be.
He acts like he doesnât feel it, too.
Like he doesnât search for me in a crowded room, eyes scanning until they find mine. Like he doesnât make excuses to drop by my cubicle, to know my coffee order, to know me.
