Part 1.
I started this little project a while ago, and since then it's had to be put on the backburner. But I still quite like it, and it was fun to work on, so you guys can enjoy it here. I'll revisit it someday.

Explore the enchanting world of pillywiggins, tiny flower fairies that nurture blossoms and bring magic to your garden.
Pillywiggins, tiny flower fairies, play a vital role in pollination and plant health, embodying the gentle aspects of nature. Their connection to flowers has influenced children’s literature and garden designs, evoking wonder and appreciation for nature. As cultural symbols, they balance the potentially dangerous nature of other fairies.
Pillywiggins: an Amended Theory
Yes, I know, we’re back to this again. Recently, while looking at the earliest piece of source material for the mysterious flower fairies known as pillywiggins, I noticed a clue which might reveal what book the author was drawing from. Were pillywiggins created by accident after all?

Faebruary day 4
Pillywiggins
A Pillywiggin is the name for little flower fairies with blue wings and buglike features, or so we have assumed in the modern era, trying to pin down the historical origin of these tiny creatures and what they originally looked like is a big task, there are no specific written references to ‘Pillywiggins’ before 1970, most original writings of fairie legends in Great Britain are hundreds of years old...
It is entirely possible that the Pillywiggin as we know it today is a more modern invention, or a story passed down orally that became confused with other folklore.
The name is similar to Pigwiggin, which refers to a small inconsequential creature and the fairy tale of Skillywidden a fairie child adopted by humans, neither has any specific relationship to flowers.
Perhaps a more scholarly folklore enthusiast than myself may yet pin down their true origin and their true nature, are Pillywinggins gentle harmless creatures? or troublesome pests as other legends claim... how like the fae to be so ambiguous.
Pillywiggins - Looking for Evidence
Do you know of any appearances of fairies called “pillywiggins,” in any kind of media, from before 1977? Did you grow up with family stories of these sprites?
If so, I’d love to hear from you! I have an ongoing research project on pillywiggins (as you may know if you follow my blog). I hope to figure out whether they’re really from British folklore, or if they’re actually a modern story that’s been presented as a traditional myth. (Based on research so far: they are not from Wales, as is commonly claimed.) I’m also tracking how they’ve evolved in modern culture.
Any help is much appreciated!
Pillywiggins, Etymology, and Knitting
This week, a fourth installment in my series on pillywiggins, the flower fairies of uncertain and probably modern origin. This time, I can - finally - present a pre-1977 occurrence of the word “pillywiggin.”
Except that it doesn’t mean what you’d expect.
