Another tattoo artist, let's call him B, has been using my $275 Flatline machine every time I leave the shop. Last week I took to hiding it when I leave.
Friday night B used my machine after I left, even after I hid it, and broke a piece on it. He said he'd put the new piece on when he got there today but he was almost 2 hours late, effectively disabling me from tattooing.
Miss Autumne was pissed, especially when I told her I had hidden it in her office. Her liner machine was also missing (of course once he broke mine he needed one), because he broke his own machine last week. He used to own 30 tattoo machines. Guess they've all been pawned for pill money.
I went and found my machine & the loose parts and fixed it myself. I hate that squirrelly fucker.
Also I have a machine that Miss Autumne let me Frankenstein last year when I first started tattooing. She gave me a set of 12-wrap coils (fairly powerful) and said if I could find a frame & enough spare parts to make a functional machine, I could have it.
That machine's been down a while. So I just sat there in my tattoo room & fixed it, too. Took it in B's room & said, here, you can use Frankenstein until you get your machine fixed.
I realize that put him back in rotation, which at first doesn't seem smart of me. But if I didn't, he'd just steal my machine every time I turn around and I'm not having that. It used to be his (a guilt gift to me for screwing me over on my license last year) & it's an expensive machine. I could see him rationalizing that it was HIS machine to begin with so he should have it back.
I told Miss Autumne what I did and why. She said that was good though, because it made a statement (you get to use this, hands off my damn good machine) & that she's gonna do two things: 1) bring me a key tomorrow for my cabinet and 2) have a lil' discussion with B about it.
I may have been just a SAHM of a lot of kids most of my life. And I might be getting into this business a little late.
But I didn't just get off the bus.
