This is why I carry a @picamarker. On wet lumber the marking is still clearly visible over a standard pencil and the lumber crayon (I’ve had lumber that won’t accept any marking from those). They aren’t perfect though, the refills are not nearly as cheap as the pencils the local lumber yard hands out with orders, they occasionally have lead slipping issues, and they aren’t available everywhere (@canexbuilding and/or @kmstools could you please stock these).
