midnight encounter

⇢Andrea let out a heavy sigh, definitely not the first of the day and most likely not the last. She thought of herself as an independent person, but she couldn’t deny her loneliness any longer. Hookups only alleviated the feeling for so long before she was once again craving human touch. That was the one good thing about work; she got that interaction she needed so badly.
Damn, she felt like crying. Thinking of her family only made the urge harder to resist. Andrea couldn’t remember the last time she cried, yet there she was, sitting on the dock, tears beginning to stream down her face. A few tears were all she could muster before her tear ducts dried out. She wished she could cry more if only to get these feelings out because goddess knows she wasn’t going to talk about them. Still, the tears stained her face, leaving a trail down both of her cheeks. She didn’t even bother to wipe her face. It wasn’t like there was anyone out there to see her. And even if there were, why would it matter?
Andrea pushed herself to her feet, causing the wood to creak beneath her boots. Pulling out her pocket watch, she checked the time. It was about midnight. She figured she ought to get home.
On her way home, she passed the local bar. She caught herself staring, but it was too late. While her eyes were turned away, she bumped into someone.
“Shit. Sorry.”
