Hey hey! This was my very first request! I was asked to do a tarot reading on the family dynamics between the Klelbold family.
Thank you @wurmhole911 for requesting, I hope you enjoy it <3
For this spread, I asked spirit, the following questions, with the specification that I wanted to know the energy from 1998 to Dylan’s death.
This reading will look into Dylan’s relationship with: Sue, Tom, and Byron.
I asked these 5 questions for each family member.
1. Dylan’s overall feeling towards X
2. X’s overall feeling towards Dylan
3. What Dylan wanted from X
4. What X did that hurt or bothered Dylan
5. What did Dylan show X
For some of these questions, more than one card was pulled. I decided to keep those cards in, it seemed spirit wanted them in.
Before we jump in: I can’t stress this enough: this is pure speculation. While I may speak in absolutes, I am in no way, shape, or form stating this as fact.
Let’s start with Sue.
] Dylan’s overall feeling towards Sue?: 5 of Swords.
Five of swords is kind of the “asshole” card of the deck. It is associated with conflict, competition, and winning at all cost.
I take this as Dylan’s relationship with his mother had become extremely hostile, the year leading up to his death. It feels as though one needed to feel as though they needed to “win”. I get the feeling Dylan may be the asshole.
] Sue’s overall feeling towards Dylan?: 3 of Swords.
Three of swords represents pain within the emotional and physical self. Depending on the deck, it can have a hopeful twist to it, that the pain does not last forever.
I think Sue felt alot of pain from Dylan’s behavior. Whether it be the disappointment from the van break in or just normal teenage angst. I think Sue wanted to put the past behind and attempt to make amends. I also believe part of it comes from Sue, she may not have been able to communicate her emotions in a way for Dylan to understand her perspective.
] What did Dylan want from Sue?: The Star and The Moon
The Star is the most hopeful card in the deck. The Moon represents fear and anxiety.
Dylan wanted emotional reassurance and acceptance. In the same vein, I don’t think he knew exactly what he wanted from Sue. I think Dylan felt anger because he did not feel completely accepted by Sue. When we consider the 5 of Swords (the asshole card lol), I think he wanted to “win”, by not chancing himself to get that acceptance.
I think the anger from this feeling of rejection was very much a point of contention. I do believe Sue wanted to mend this relationship, I just don’t think she knew how.
] What about Sue bothered/ hurt Dylan?: Knight of Cups
Knight of Cups can represent romanticized ideas and emotional expression.
This is a very interesting card to pull for this question. I think maybe Sue would appeal to Dylan emotionally, perhaps making promises, and then never fell through with her promises. Dylan viewed Sue as someone very emotional, maybe indirect at times. I do think Dylan wanted a healthy relationship with his Mom.
] What did Dylan show Sue?: 8 of Wands, 9 of Wands
Eight of Wands: fast paced changes and alignment. Nine of Wands: resilience and boundaries.
When I pulled these cards, I immiedately thought of one of Sue’s interviews where she states that she did not detect Dylan’s depression because he was so busy. I think that is exactly what happened. Dylan used his busy school and social life to hide the things that were really bothering him. I believe she also said that she felt a “large wall” between her and Dylan at this time.
TLDR: Dylan was deeply affected by the conflict him and his mother were going through. Dylan may have been the one to instigate many of these arguments, and Sue wanted to mend their relationship. Dylan felt emotionally neglected by Sue, but at the same time thinks she can be overly emotional. Sue is not understanding the depth of which this conflict came from. But did recognize a barrier forming between the two. Lots of things left unsaid between the two.

Onto Tom.
] Dylan’s overall feelings towards Tom?: Ace of Pentacles.
Ace of Pentacles is the independence card. It is typically ties to finances.
Dylan viewed Tom as someone valuable and stable. Dylan wanted to strength their bond.
] Tom’s overall feelings towards Dylan?: 5 of Wands.
Five of Wands represents disagreements and friction.
This kind of ties back to Dylan and Sue, but I think Tom did not agree with a lot of Dylan’s decisions. There’s a frustration here that Tom can’t control Dylan 100%.
] What Dylan wanted from Tom?: 5 of Pentacles.
Five of Pentacles is associated with isolation and lack of safety.
Similar to Sue, Dylan wanted support from his dad. I think Dylan really felt as though his parents were not in his corner. Going back to the Ace of Pentacles, I think Dylan saw the level of support his parents were capable of (maybe from Byron?) and felt as though he was not getting it.
] What about Tom bothered/ hurt Dylan?: 6 of Wands reversed, Page of Swords.
Six of Wands reversed: defeat and lack of recognition. Page of Swords: curiosity and new ideas.
Dylan felt as through Tom was too overly critical and new gave him enough credit. Kind of “Nothing I do is good enough”.
] What did Dylan show Tom?: King of Swords.
King of Swords: mental clarity and truth.
I think Dylan may have perceived himself as someone that can take care of himself. I do not think these two ever engaged in any conversations involving emotions.
TLDR: I think Dylan looked up to his dad. However, he felt unsupported and even left out. This could be from Tom being too critical of Dylan. Instead of telling his dad how he felt, he instead portrayed himself as self sufficient.
-
Finally, Byron.
] Dylan’s overall feelings towards Byron?: Ace of Swords.
Ace of Swords: breakthroughs and mental clarity.
I think Dylan really respected Byron. I do, also think, Dylan had something he wanted Byron to understand. Dylan wanted a honest relationship with his brother. Dylan may feel emotional distance from Byron.
] Byron’s overall feeling towards Dylan?: The Emperor, Knight of Wands.
The Emperor: authority. Knight of Wands: passion and impulsiveness.
Byron DEFINIETLY saw himself above Dylan. There is an element of impulsive actions. I think this combination suggests Byron maybe lead Dylan in certain directions, without thinking it all the way through. It makes me think of how Sue explained Byron gave Dylan alcohol (and weed? I can’t remember. Byron is the dominant personality in this relationship.
] What did Dylan want from Byron?: 9 of Pentacles.
Nine of Pentacles: independence and abundance.
Dylan wanted Byron to let him be his own person. Also, he wanted Byron to respect his autonomy. Maybe Dylan admired Byron’s independence and wanted to embody that image himself.
] What about Byron hurt/ bothered Dylan?: The Hermit, The Wheel of Fortune reversed.
The Hermit: introspection and isolation. The Wheel of Fortune reversed: resistance to change and bad timing.
Dylan may have felt that Byron was withdrawn or unavailable to him in general. I do think Dylan wanted a good relationship with Byron. The Wheel of Fortune suggests that there may have been circumstances repeating that kept them at odds with each other.
] What did Dylan show Byron?: 5 of Cups.
Five of Cups: regret and disappointment.
Unlike Sue and Tom, I think Dylan was more emotionally expressive to Byron. He may have told Byron straight up how disappointed he was at him or their relationship. Considering The Emperor card from earlier, I get the feeling that maybe Byron wasn’t as serious to have a good relationship with Dylan. A sharp contrast with Sue.
TLDR: Dylan wanted to be treat and respected as his own person. Byron most likely held his role as “older brother” over Dylan’s head. Dylan was most likely hurt by the distance and vocalized said disappointment to Byron.
-
Again, don’t take this as fact. The overall takeaway is pretty consistent between each family member. I think Dylan just wanted to feel accepted and respect. He just did not have the mental and emotional capacity to vocalize these feelings. I do think the only person that may have listened to these grievances would be Sue- based on what the cards showed. Tom and Byron’s energy feel more stubborn and maybe disinterested.
