The thing that frustrates me about ppl talking about ancient poets like “these bards ignored this woman’s story but now she has a voice” is like… how do you know these writers didn’t write about her? How do you know this woman having no story of her own is due to lack of trying? How do you know writers weren’t invested in writing about this woman but their work is lost to time? So much of mythology is lost.
Ppl say this most about Medusa, even tho Aeschylus wrote Phorcides, a tragedy about the children of Phorcys, the graiai and Gorgons, but it’s lost. So how do you know some playwright or poet out there didn’t realize the tragedy of Medusa (whether it’s the Hesiod or Ovid version) and wrote about her? Then their writing got lost to time?
