Sitting in a bar alone wasn’t exactly Phoenix’s idea of fun. More often than not, they reeked of cigarettes and booze, two things that Phoenix wasn't the biggest fan of. Sure, when he was with the Shadows, he didn't mind – most of them smelled like that when they weren't working anyway – but when he was by himself? Yeah, no thanks.
Yet there he was. Sitting at the bar, absentmindedly stirring the drink in front of him. He hadn't taken a sip yet even though he'd gotten it well over twenty minutes ago. It'd gone from being some kind of multicolored slushie to just a dull liquid. Phoenix hadn't noticed.
It was one of the fancy bars, the ones where drinks cost almost twenty dollars and the smell of cigarettes and booze was covered up by all the fancy perfumes and colognes that its patrons wore. Not Phoenix, though. He'd leave no trace that he was there other than the bartender that saw his face. Even then, though, enough money could make anyone forget anything.
It didn't take long to find her. She was sitting in a booth, wearing some fancy dress and subtle make up, chocolatey brown hair done up in a half up half down style. Had she started straightening it? The thought made Phoenix frown.
You have no right to care, he reminded himself. No right at all.
Finally, Phoenix stopped stirring his drink and took a sip. It didn’t look very appetizing anymore, but it still tasted fine. Sweet, fruity, not at all like it had multiple shots of vodka in it. It helped fight off the bitterness that had started to curdle in his stomach. Maybe it wasn’t that unreasonable that it was twenty two dollars.
A few more sips later, and the target finally walked through the door. While Phoenix would have loved to check in on her outside of work, there was rarely time. No, during work would have to suffice. She crossed over some of his projects enough that he could justify the heartache and the memories that the trips inevitably dug back up.
Eavesdropping was as easy as ever. The booth that they were sitting at was close enough to the bar that all Phoenix had to do was lean back a little and he was within earshot. If they decided to get up, though, that would be an issue. Too easy to lose them in a crowded bar. That’s probably the reason they chose to meet here.
Phoenix pulls out a mini notebook from his jacket and a pen from his pocket, making notes of the hushed conversation going on not too far from him. The bartender looks at him weird for a second, but Phoenix pushed a hundred over the bar and the bartender’s face morphed into one of understanding.
The conversation finishes quickly, and Phoenix has all the information he needs. He tucks the notebook back into his jacket and orders a water, watching as the man leaves again and the woman adjusts her hair.
Sharp blue eyes turn to look at him, and Phoenix has never been so glad that he still has his melted drink in front of him. He grabs it and takes a sip, looking just past her and at the rays of the disco ball hitting the wall. She loses interest fast, much to Phoenix’s relief.
The only reason she didn’t recognize him is because of the scars and the general wear and tear he’s gone through since they’d last seen each other. Phoenix is sure there was some part of her that knows who he is, even if she doesn’t realize it now. Maybe she will later.
Better that he leaves now, then. Phoenix orders a glass of water and quickly chugs it before paying the bartender. 200 dollars, not including what he had given earlier, and an order to forget that he was ever there. Then he leaves, but not before looking at the woman one last time.
“Bye, Elizabeth. Talk to you later,” he mutters under his breath the same way he does every time after he sees her. Maybe it would make up for the fact that he never said it to her when he had left. Maybe she would hear him one day. Maybe, just maybe, he would mean it.
Since the MC can have red eyes, did they have them as a human or is it something that happened when they were turned? Are red eyes common? I understand that C’s eyes are red. Sort of.
I’ll mainly leave that up for you all to HC, but I can say that the venom can change certain facets of the individual it’s changing (not to a serious degree… barring, you know, becoming a vampire)… For instance, Helena used to have golden white hair but now it’s more white. So, you could say that your MC had reddish brown eyes, or something close to it, and the venom just decided to make them red as the change occurred. As that’s entirely possible.
I wouldn’t say red eyes are uncommon, but I suppose it’d just depend on the species. Zephyr has red eyes too. And, in C’s case, it’s sort of a showing of who they are as phoenixes typically have one eye color (like Ash with their silver eyes), but since C is the heir their inner fire is a bit stronger than normal phoenixes.
I hope that made sense— I’m not the best at explaining things sometimes.

Eey Phoenix time! So as I was looking at my previous post, I realized something. While the tree model makes sense, it breaks apart a lot of the lore I'd put into my star wars fanfic.
So! Tonight we're gonna look at some fixes to Seer lore. As a reminder, they are considered the strongest type of Phoenix due to their abilities to see other timelines through magic, but they are also the most vulnerable to anti-magic effects.
Now that we're using a tree analogy, my first thought was a zoomed-out view of the tree. However, that would seem overwhelming and unnecessary for if they ever ventured off homeworld. With that dilemma, I recognized they would've had time before taking homeworld into its normal pocket dimension (not the one completely cut off), so they needed a way to see relevant information.
As of right now, I'm going with they can see branches within a certain radius of the timeline they're in, and if on homeworld, they can essentially zoom into areas of the tree. We established last post that orator/Listener pairs have fields of expertise and each Phoenix is in tune with a particular set of unicerses, so I'm thinking Seers have a natural affinity towards primary branches. As they expand their view and comprehension, they can ascend the ranks in the Council.
Which brings me to what is the Council's structure? I've always pictured a group of Phoenix older than anyone knows who oversee the biggest picture. With these microperspectives, their direct reports could be managers of trunks, then primary branches, secondary branches, and tertiary branches. Beyond that, the branches collapse too quickly to be properly managed.
What do these timelines look like for a Phoenix? I've pictured their vision similar to Toph's from atla, but with lines of magic running through everything and everyone, connecting to their soul. Phoenix can be born with a defect that prevents them from detecting Phoenix as anything other than voids in their vision and other timelines. How they see other timelines is a little fuzzy right now, although one possibility is like a split screen or overlays. The latter would normally make it very difficult to tell them apart, so... maybe I should actually rethink how their sigh works. Toph as inspiration helped in the beginning but now it's kinda getting in the way, I think. Lmk if you have any thoughts/suggestions/questions
Next up: probably the touch-sense ones since I have some use for them. Tasters are... questionable at best unless I can work them with touches? Sensors? I don't remember their type name off the top of my head

PHOENIX LORE
keep on mind that while yes, i'm definitely pulling inspirations from already existing phoenix lore, this lore is my own and i have not stolen it from anyone
WHAT ARE PHOENIXES?
A phoenix is a human that, after dying for the first time, gets access to their powers.
HOW ARE THEY CREATED?
A Phoenix cannot be created, only born. Many have tried before, including the Dread Doctors, notorious for making quimeras but all attempts have failed. The Phoenixes have always been an endangered species and now fewer and fewer Phoenixes have been rising. The bloodlines have been the same since their appearance in the supernatural world, no one born outside of them can turn into a Phoenix. A Phoenix is only born out of specific situations. They can only be awakened if the death is unnatural, only violent/traumatic deaths will allow the human to unlock their abilities. Dying of old age or illness means that person will not rise.
POWERS
Pyrokinesis
Fire Resistance
Spontaneous Combustion
Superhuman Strengh
Immortality
Superhuman Healing
Shapeshifting
PYROKINESIS
The ability to use their mind to create and control fire at their will.
FIRE RESISTANCE
The ability to walk through fire and not be burned. Clothes not included.
SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION
The ability to set things on fire as long as they are touching it/them
SUPERHUMAN STRENGHT
Stronger than a normal human but weaker than a werewolf while in human form. Can carry great weights with their tale in bird form
IMMORTALITY
Phoenixes cannot truly die, not of natural causes nor of other causes, they will be dead for about thirty minutes before coming back to life. They stop aging once they mature, which happens when they gain full control of all their abilities. The only thing that can truly kill a Phoenix, is another Phoenix.
SUPERHUMAN HEALING
They possess faster healing, still not as fast as a werewolf's would be under normal circumstances. If the wound would be fatal to a normal human, it will not heal.
SHAPESHIFTING
Phoenixes have two forms, human and bird, and can live in either one. Achieving their bird form is the last step for a Phoenix to reach their maturity.
Phoenix lore: The First Phoenix pony part 1
Many thousands of years ago. Back before Equestria was founded, ten miles out into the sea were an island, this island weren’t inhabited by ponies, no it was inhabited by Phoenixes, these were extraordinary birds, a power over the elements of nature, from fire to smoke, from earth to the skies, if it existed, there was a phoenix for it, even evolution itself. A pure black phoenix was on the ground pecking at a nut trying to crack it, but without luck. That was until another bird flew in.
The phoenix looked at the other as it’s powerful beak cracks a nut to get to the inside of it. The phoenix stared as if marveled by this discovery, it looked at it’s own beak, the phoenix then shook and ruffled it’s body till it shifted and morphed into the other bird, now it easily cracked the nut and feast upon it’s inside. This was an evolution phoenix, capable of rapid learning and adaptations to ensure complete survival.
The phoenix then looked at it’s wings, they were certainly bigger, the phoenix perked up and took to the skies. The phoenix flew to a spot at the edge of the island, here it used it’s sharp eyes to see across the water to the mainland. It saw numerous creatures it’s never seen before, so much to learn from them, it’s senses weren’t sharp enough to get a clear enough view to study the creatures from this distance.
It took a stance and it flew up high into the sky, it’s goal. the mainland, it flapped it’s wings, sadly though, it quickly felt tired, it’s new body wasn’t good for long distance flights, it was too heavy for it. Defeated once again, the phoenix glides down to the island, landing on the ground, it sat and rested. as it looked over the sea, it began to well up tears in it’s eyes and started to cry at another failed attempt.
((had to split this one up in two parts as it’s getting late. Feedback and critic is welcomed and wanted. I’ll refine it first thing tomorrow.))
Here's Phoenix's military file! Pls excuse any inaccuracies, I did as much research as I could considering it's the middle of the night here and I'm running on coffee and a hope and a prayer.
