Now that the eponymous Phoenix canariensis has been dwarfed by so many other plants (and I can’t be certain that such a small specimen will survive the winter), I should revert to calling this the Phormium Bed.  July 2020.

Container plant collection/nursery and phoenix bed update. Mulching with sieved compost is done, so all that’s left to do is learn what grows well here - there’s more sun than expected so some plants may need to be moved.  And I’m slowly working on sorting through the pile of waste material, so that won’t be there forever.  April 2020. 

Plenty of rain has balanced out May’s heatwave, and everything is growing well now (weeds included!). June 2020.
