My wildlife and pollinator-friendly garden
Ribatejo, Portugal
margarida.sa.maia
Lady's/yellow bedstraw, galium verum
Separating artichoke offshoots today
These guys grow pretty quickly once the main plant is established, and if you leave them they'll crowd each other out for light and lead to issues w mildew and fewer, smaller flower bulbs
Above all came from a single Artichoke plant- they form a thick taproot that branches out new shoots from its side
I believe I originally planted 3 Globe Artichoke here?
Theres at least 8 now, a couple years later, and I want room for other things to use the undergrowth layer of this bed
After some spot removal and replanting in the new bed I established behind it just this winter (via throwing down some straw)
This "new bed" is pretty rocky and hasn't had any compost yet, so I made sure to add a good amount of compost and mixed soil around each root base so the new roots will have an easy time while they get established
These guys are pretty hardy as long as you dont transplant them right before an extreme freeze or drought, but they will look very pathetic for a couple weeks while they grow out their new roots for drinking and nutrients

WHEN THE WAR IS OVER AND I AM LYING QUIETLY AMONGST ANGELS, WAITING FOR YOU TO FIND ME & other stories by perennials/@corpsentry
The anthology contains the following stories:
WHEN THE WAR IS OVER AND I AM LYING QUIETLY AMONGST ANGELS, WAITING FOR YOU TO FIND ME
WITH A MOUTH FULL OF NAILS, I SING TO YOU
I STOP TO SMELL THE BLOOD IN THE TREES AND FOR A MOMENT THE WORLD IS SO BEAUTIFUL IT BRINGS ME TO TEARS
STONE COLD SALVATION
at the end of the long sad story about heaven
I am completely obsessed with the writing style of perennials. Every paragraph contains a line that made me cackle followed by a line that that left me bleeding out from a gut wound.
I normally try to summarise the story here and explain why I loved it but it is much harder to do succinctly with an anthology. The first (main/longest) story looks at whether AoC was cannon or a daydream Zelda had whilst she was hanging out in Hyrule castle with Gannon. The second is about the emotionally charged AoC hangout of Sideon and Mipha. The third is Link having a five week long extensional crisis about having emotions. The fourth is about Zelda, and all of the inconsequential things she wants, if she can't avert the apocalypse. The fifth is the Christmas episode, and I will not be elaborating any further.
Every story here is just so good and I cannot recommend them all highly enough. If you haven't read them then please go forth and do so! These five stories have lived rent free in my brain since I read them.
Massive thanks to @corpsentry for giving me permission to bind these stories, and to edit my copy to be an edition that uses UK spelling! The cover art is by @corpsentry and is stunning. I love the dreamy vibes of Zelda and the clouds and the tower and I really felt it fit the theme of the lead story really well. Thank you for letting me use the art! The endpapers are also by @corpsentry and they are so gorgeous, I have had to include them before the cut:
This is my first attempt at art in the endpapers and I think it worked really well in the end.
More pictures (I had so much fun typesetting this one - I got to play with different fonts which is always a great time!) and a video below the cut.
Do you ever just pull out every seed you have & make sticky note directions for yourself because it's already almost halfway through May & you're like Oh shit!? All of these seeds will be in the ground before this day ends 🌱🧑🌾🌱
My Mother's Day gift from the kids was getting the main front garden 100% weeded & ready for seeds & plant starts. Boogie also tamed the knee-high grass. We're going to plant artichokes & Peruvian ground cherries, aka gooseberries, in there with the red & golden raspberries, garlic & potatoes. That way the garden will have plenty of perennial fruits & vegetables to last for the next 20 years or so. Who doesn't like no-effort food?
just trying my best lately. some days i feel grounded, some days i feel like i’m barely holding onto myself. life feels heavy and beautiful at the same time. trying my best not to lose myself while chasing the things i want. still trying, still building habits that keep me afloat. maybe that counts for something.
Two more completed sketch pages (references/inspiration: Pinterest) and yes, I successfully avoided drawing the faces :)
