take the scenic route - my first f1 fic, one of my least popular ones lol, still my fav. based on my very special experiences at the edinburgh fringe so of course had to put galex in the thick of it. i think just has a very comforting feeling to me as a writer and also when i reread it, and i hope it does the same for other readers <3

it's green, it's still green - my isak valtersen insomnia fic. written at a very insomniac time of my life and was just very cathartic to get out, but when i return to it now there's just something again soft and comforting to it that makes me almost glad i was going through it so i could write this

upstream - baberoe fic based on jen's @crowthis art which i still think about on the regular. like cmon now. maybe i like the fic so much bc of that association (and i was lucky enough to have another piece of beautiful fanart drawn for it by @cirr0stratus!!) but having been writing band of brothers fic for a decade now i think there's something about upstream that's almost a culmination/a maturity compared to my other works. and it uses my fav baberoe scene from the show as a jumping off point, so :')

how the cup holds the tea - my sole sciles fic but honestly i feel like i don't need to write anything more for them bc i peaked with this one, truly. loveee a domestic established relationship slice of life kind of thing, plus they have a dog called biscuit. like, come on. again, just feels like a warm hug when i pick it up to reread :')

He's fiddling with the end of his scarf, just for a moment, before putting his hands in his coat pockets. Simon catches the movement. "That's- I'm sorry that happened," he says, nodding towards sad, wet, freezing Simon. And Simon also feels sorry for himself. But there's still that nagging, nauseous feeling. It doesn't seem very fair that Wille is the one saying sorry, when technically, in theory… Or: Simon, Rosh and Ayub don't manage to burn down the Gävle goat. Wille still gets to help. An alternate ending to joy that lights the fire by phnelt.

This is my entry for the remix exchange hosted by @youngroyals-events, thank you for organizing! I had the honor of remixing a story by @phneltwrites, namely the arsonist rom-com joy that lights the fire. If you haven't read that one, you should! Go! Now! I tried to imagine an alternate ending, one in which things don't go quite as smoothly (until they do).

“Not in a bad way. You’re just more guarded than you used to be. Mr. Mercedes,” he says, playfully poking George in the side.

George laughs, flinching at the contact. “That tickles–” he gets out, before he slips off his careful perch on the arm of the chair, into Alex’s lap.

Every time I try to say the word sparkle out loud now, I think of you. Or basically any time I try to say any word with an 'ar', and I'm suddenly painfully aware of ACCENT.

But anyway. Yes. HAIR SPARKLES. Immortalising a very precious moment in my life. I loved writing that scene so much. Anything with forced proximity being PROXIMITY. Especially because at that point in the fic, they didn't quite know where they stood. Fun fun fun.

hi! 💜 so, this is basically young royals but set 15-20 years earlier. it's actually something @sadhappylady and i started to think about after talking about growing up in small towns. how similar our experiences were despite growing up in different countries and what it would be like if wilmon had lived during the early or mid-00s.

baseline is, it would be a lot angstier, way more homophobic and racist than what canon is. i don't know if it's something i'll ever actually write, because simon would be going through SO MUCH more in addition to what he goes through in canon. but it has been very interesting to think about, to figure out how to work around certain things. (i mean, august would not have a camera phone for one thing, so that whole plot line would need a lot of thought to make it work.)

part of me wants to try this, but it would also be a massive amount of work so i don't know. besides, is early/mid-00s even a time period anyone who didn't grow up then would care about?

MAJOR moment for me when this came out . ...

There isn't a lot known about Geeshie & Elvie but this NYT piece on them does probably as much as is possible: "There are musicians as obscure as Wiley and Thomas, and musicians as great, but in none does the Venn diagram of greatness and lostness reveal such vast and bewildering co-extent." here's Chris Thomas King (important blues artist) on the lengths he went to to get an original copy of Last Kind Words. There's fewer than 10 original copies of their records - three discs, six songs - left in existence.

i've also been obsessed for some years with the Wailers version of Like A Rolling Stone which takes elements of Bob Dylan but adds some verses and is WILDLY different

HMMMM!!!! I'm not very up to date on new music. I willlll say that . I truly love the band Young Fathers. my favourite boyband <3. have seen them live several times (they are Very compelling live .. the first time i saw them they had such a quality of strangeness and newness to their movements and their presence it was immediately clear I was seeing something important) although not for a couple of years... they remain interesting to me. But i do prefer their first couple of albums (tape one, tape two, dead) over the next couple of albums.

27. an instrumental song

hhhhh what shall i give you. well I listen to a certain amount of non western music. Once at a festival I saw the Ethiopian saxophonist Getatchew Mekuria perform with the Dutch punk band The Ex and at the time i was like. this is the greatest thing ive ever seen and heard in my LIFE. They did two collab albums BUT the track i keep coming back to is not really a collab - it's a pure solo by Getatchew in the Tizita / Tezeta (nostalgia, longing) genre, which starts around 39.19 in the video below (could only find it in a full album upload on youtube). I think he was about 70 when they made this album.
