Jaune can’t really do “magic”. He’s not a wizard lol. It’s more like… if he wants something to happen, and it’s useful to the story, then it will happen. For example, one night there was a really bad sandstorm and the power in Shade Academy went out, and Jaune was able to create light

Circle magic is also a big thing, because stories love circles. They show up a lot in folklore and fairytales cause they’re narratively satisfying shapes, and Jaune can use that to his advantage (intentionally or unintentionally)

I can go into more detail of circle magic in another post (cause I have Thoughts) but basically they carry a lot of narrative weight. Circle magic especially is something that he did so often and got so used to that it’s kind of subconscious now.

If Jaune accidentally draws one in the sand while thinking, or people end up standing in a ring around him, or he walks a perimeter enough times to make a loop… the Narrative notices. It becomes easier to give meaning to (either intentionally or not), because the shape itself is doing half of the work

And it definitely makes him feel weird about the whole thing. It pokes at habits he had to learn there. The Ever After runs on story logic. If something SHOULD happen to make story work, it tends to happen eventually. Jaune had to survive inside that for years, so he got used to using those patterns

It’s less “this feels like home” and more like muscle memory
