blessing the dm with its request for questions:
phaena --
2- What's something about your OC that people wouldn't expect just from looking at them?
3- What is your OC's fatal flaw? Are they aware of this flaw?
thank you for helping to sate my writing cravings, strange and wild things that they are. I have tasked myself with writing these in narrative form, a thing I do not often do, but we do not control our passions.
2. The small paintbrush rises from the palette with a care and softness that would suprise anyone who saw the wielder of such an artistic tool. Phaena smiles to herself as the brush gently caresses the scene of birds playing in a pond, adding detail that very few others would realise to add. She paints alone in her attic room, sitting at an easel turned so that it catches the autumn sunlight streaming through the large window.
With a final stroke, the painting is finished, and Phaena looks proudly upon her work. She never signs her paintings, and hangs them up around Klaakara in eateries and boarding houses covertly. She sometimes likes to sit and listen to people talking about the artworks, smiling to herself.
3. The ghoul lays in his final death, unceremoniously pushed into a ditch, the clean puncture wound through the chest sealing his fate. He once was a person, but his figure has been transformed into something bestial and predatory. Where there once was a mouth, there now is a large maw of sharp teeth to hold onto prey. Where once were fingers, there now are talons to slice and disembowel. His red eyes look dully into oblivion, Phaena standing over him and wiping her blade on her coat.
"You should have let him stand trial." The voice is flat and devoid of energy or emotion. "That's what we do back home." Danika speaks once more, a look of mild horror and resignation at the corpse.
Phaena looks at her guide, a ranger from a town just south of the Darleigh ranges, and shakes her head "He killed nine people, Ranger." She says in a cold and matter-of-fact voice. "Look at him, there was nothing left that would understand what a trial would even be. He lost that part of himself a long time ago, nothing left except a dangerous beast. He made his choice when he committed predation." Phaena moves to a nearby stream and begins to gather rocks for a cairn.
"Maybe, but he still deserved a trial. Everyone deserves a trial, even if the outcome is always going to be execution." Danika replies doggedly, not moving to help with the cairn. "Anyway, I thought your religion was about helping undead, not just killing them out on the road like an animal" she adds.
Phaena drops the rock she was carrying and whips around to Danika, striding forward until the pair have barely a foot apart from each other, the ranger taking a step back "My religion is about doing what is right, Danika! Do not preach to me what my faith declares!" Under her mask, Phaena's face is twisted into a snarl of rage as she continues, "look around you and use your head. We're a month's travel from your hometown, and 2 weeks away from anywhere else! You may find it easy to bring in criminals and bandits to your council where you hail from, but out here, it's just ME." The last word sending up a few nearby birds in squawks of suprise, the following silence pierced only by the trickling of the stream. Phaena strides back to her rock and picks it back up, adding a few more in the process. "And what is right, is that this murderer has been stopped, and that I am going to give him a proper burial so that he may pass on and not corrupt anything else with his madness." She adds, placing the stones down one by one in the foundations of the cairn.
Danika still hasn't moved since Phaena's outburst, although now her face is significantly paler. Phaena looks up and sighs "Now, are you going to help me with this or not?"
13 for the edgy OC ask game (for all three!)
Oh boy, this is an interesting one
13. If you met your OC, would the two of you get along?
Yulia Maybe a little, we share a fascination with the academic, but Yulia is incredibly jaded and basically thinks that no positive political change is possible, and you may as well just be a parasite and look out for yourself. I cannot stand this kind of person lmao.
Phaena Probably. She's very intense and kinda broody, so it would be hard to actually hang out for any period of time, but I feel like we could have interesting conversations about philosophy and spirituality. I would also find her interesting to talk to and learn more about her religious order.
Dmitri Idk. He's a little pious for my taste I guess, but I feel like we could have a lot of fun playing chess or having a jam session on guitar. He's definitely the kind of person to get quite competitive at board or card games, which is very much like members of my family, so I think the ideal hang out with him would be at a dinner/board game night.

I donāt know what you did with your friends today, but
(Art by @phaena)
phaena drew me the best Yusue eeryone else can go home now
Birthday Project: 4. Monster
She took her in her arms when she saw her head was bleeding. She tried her best to keep the blood from flowing with her hands. Crimson fluid dyed her palms as she pressed as carefully as her shaking fit let her and then tried to keep her friend awake by slapping her face gently.
Otherwise, she knew she would be lost forever.
āNo, no, noā¦ā she repeated, as though she was trying to keep her friendās soul inside her body with that growingly faint monosyllable. Her head, hands, arms, legs were slowly giving up. There was no strength left in them and her face and fingers were starting to show unmistakable signs of rigor mortis. Her limbs were forced by gravity to fall freely. She didnāt know when she started sobbing this hardā¦when did all this become so painful for her to bear or when she held the lifeless body against her chest so tightly... and begged to heavens to let her liveā¦
But she wasnāt breathing anymore.
She didnāt know what to do. She didnāt do this on purpose. If only she wouldāve been stronger⦠If only she had enough willpower to keep that damn troublesome spirit locked inside her. She was a monster⦠She was a damn monster and she had lost one of her best friends because she was so weak⦠She was such a coward.
She stopped feeling her weight on her lap. She turned her head downwards and realised she was no longer there. She turned around again and then stared at her hands. They were still drenched in her clotted blood, just as her eyes swam in a salty veil that didnāt let her see clearly. She fought hard to open her eyes. She had to find her body. She couldnāt let her wander around just like that...with her head open... And she still couldnāt see because of that damn watery veil!
...In the end, she forced her eyes open. Her eyelashes were still freshly humid because of her tears. All she found was darkness.
It had just been a horrible dream she dreaded would soon become true.
