“I don’t know how to fix this.”
Things have been tense on Odessen ever since Arcann has joined the Alliance. Not that Peyar could blame the members of Alliance for their skepticism. As a Miraluka, Peyar could sense Arcann’s intentions. Peyar often found the distrust that other species have towards each other exhausting and annoying. Peyar was doing her rounds through the Med Bay on Odessen. When Peyar enered Senya’s room she wasn’t surprised to see that Arcann was sitting next to her. Arcann looked horrible. It was obvious that he wasn’t taking care of himself.
“Arcann, when was the last time you took care of yourself?” Peyar asked and Arcann jumped. Peyar smiled slightly and began to check on Senya.
“I’m sorry. I could leave…” Arcann started and Peyar shook her head.
“That isn’t what I meant. I meant when was the last time you slept or ate.” Peyar said, not looking directly at the man. As a Miraluka she didn't have to look in his direction to see him. Arcann looked back at the bed.
“I can’t sleep.” Arcann said and Peyar frowned as she finished checking on Senya.
“Senya is fine. You shouldn’t lose sleep over worry.” Peyar said, turning so that she was facing Arcann. Arcann still wasn’t looking at her.
“It’s not that.” Arcann said quietly and Peyar walked over to Arcann. She could see his anger and guilt and it darkened the room.
“Arcann, I can’t read minds. Tell me what is wrong.” Peyar said softly
“I don’t know how to fix this.” Arcann said looking at Peyar.
“Fix what?” Peyar asked and Arcann stood up. Arcann faced the healer.
“Everything I did as Emperor.” Arcann said and Peyar lightly put a hand on Arcann’s arm.
“Arcann, beating yourself up isn’t going to do anything.” Peyar said
“Then what am I supposed to do?” Arcann asked with anger clear in his voice.
“Learn. Learn from your mistakes. Do your best to become a better person.” Peyar said and Arcann looked back at his mother.
“I’m not worth her life.” Arcann said
“To her you are.” Peyar said
“What about you?” Arcann asked and Peyar looked at him in confusion.
“What about me?” Peyar asked
“What do you think about me? Do you think I’m worth redemption?” Arcann asked
“Quinora dra a ferash’d. Dee revgu’m’a zeh mra za ferash as’hbog.” Peyar said and Arcann looked at her in confusion. Peyar smiled slightly and held back a laugh.
“It’s a Miralukan saying it means in Basic; Anyone can be redeemed. The hardest part is how to redeem them.” Peyar said and Arcann looked at her. Peyar began to feel slightly self conscious.
“Most do not see it that way.” Arcann said
“Miralukans are considered more trusting than other species.” Peyar said
“We can see inside people. We can tell people’s intentions.” Peyar said
“What do you see inside me?” Arcann asked
“I see guilt, suffering, anger, hatred, love, hope, sadness. You desire an opportunity to prove yourself and to make up for your actions. You wish to change the past. Your emotions swirl inside you. Pulling you every which way.” Peyar said
“If you can see all that, why do you still believe that I can be redeemed?” Arcann asked
“No person is completely evil. There is always a spark of good within them.” Peyar said
“Your brother doesn’t see it that way.” Arcann said and Peyar frowned
“You hurt Zezaar. Aozun, refuses to forgive you for that. He feels guilt at his inability to protect her from you, so he takes it out on you.” Peyar said
“Have you forgiven me?” Arcann asked and Peyar frowned in deep thought.
“No, I may never be able to. But, I’m giving you a chance.” Peyar said
“Thank you.” Arcann said and Peyar smiled slightly.
“You’re welcome, now get some rest before I force you to.” Peyar said and she walked out of the room.
