The worst part is that she actually believes this. I mean, up to this point she hasn't seen anything to prove otherwise. Rhia loves the Jedi, the Republic, their people, and everything they stand for, so she's stood by them and given everything she has to them.
But when she's the Alliance Commander, and she needs allies against Zakuul, the Republic is nowhere to be found. And it's the Empire, of all people, that picks up the slack.
When she merges the Alliance into the Republic, Rhiasma's thinking that surely it will be better this time now that she's come back, right? But the entire time Malgus is out running around they do nothing but doubt, hinder, and betray her.
It's ironic that the very person who worked so hard to keep the Rift Alliance from exiting the Republic was considering leaving herself near the end of her tenure.

Nothing drives it home that the promotion to master in consular is a political move like Jaric Kaedan telling my beautiful asshole Cantik that he earned the title for his patience.
First word out of his mouth in the list of masterly qualities. They don't say it this way in game but I have to assume Kaedan said that through gritted teeth. There's no way anyone believed the words coming out of their mouths there.
Tebbith (Jedi Consular; Vulnerable to Loyalty)(Light 1)
It’s been a while since I did a round of profiles and I didn’t even complete the last one; this one encompasses level 1-50 and the scattering of ways thereafter! Spoilers for Galaxy Without End, chapters 1-58.
Tebbith sat on the curving sofa of the Gnost-Dural and hyperventilated.
Zenith leaned in the doorway, holding a kolto pack to a dark burn above one lek. “You get out okay?”
“I was not prepared to see Scythia again. I very nearly tried to harm her.”
Tebbith really wanted to stay in the Archives and tend the histories of the Jedi Order. Fate had other ideas. In short succession his Jedi Master fell mysteriously ill and his friend, the coruscating Larr Gith, got assigned offworld to be a real Jedi Knight. It seemed that all paths led out to the galaxy entire.
“Kira. I can’t imagine everything you had to learn, and unlearn, at such an early age. Perhaps if we’re upset it’s because you fit in so well here. It’s a shock to think that you can be a good Jedi and at the same time have this painful past.”
“‘Good Jedi,’” Larr grumbled. “Why are you defending her?”
“Because she’s a person. A person who was placed in a terrible situation. We’re sworn to help people like that. You know she isn’t Sith. Why is it difficult to find compassion for someone who sacrificed everything to reject it?”
Tebbith is a learner, one who relies on sharp tactical instincts to supplement a thoughtful turn of mind. He has to.
And then, one day, Larr Gith went to capture the Emperor. And she didn’t come back.
“Lord Scythia,” he said, “your reputation precedes you. They say you know things that can't be known, and control things where others see only chaos. I want to know what's happened to Larr Gith and where she is now.”
“What would you give me for that intelligence?”
And that was the hard part, the part that might run through her patience. The test he simply had to pass. “I have nothing. No credits, no treasures. I could teach your apprentices about the Force. I am accounted a good teacher.”
“‘No passion, only serenity’? Not so useful for a Sith.”
“I can work for you. I pick up and summarize knowledge quickly, and I am accounted fair at telekinesis.”
Those eyes could drive nails. “I am not unsympathetic, Master Tebbith. I am willing to consider including you on my reports about Larr Gith. On one condition.”
Reports? There were reports? The wounded beast in his chest strained at its bars. “I will not agree to harm her, nor let her come to harm.” Was that too much? He couldn’t concede more.
She gestured, an elegant motion. “I want to meet with you, in person, like this, every time I have an update for you.”
“Is that all? Agreed.”
In Tebbith’s quest for Larr Gith’s return, he joined forces with an up-and-coming Sith named Lord Scythia. Little by little she broke him down, always teasing bits of information about where Larr might have gone and how she might be reached.
Inside of six months she had him assassinating her enemies. By the end, he was torturing potential sources himself.
Tebbith stepped to the console. “Project Noble Focus was centered here. You tested species against one another, looking for their limits. Their capacity for savagery. You segregated them and then set them against one another and forced them to fight and die. And took notes.”
He was an archivist, and this was a history of his people, of many peoples. He would be remiss to destroy it before he’d witnessed it. He opened the folder to see what good he was to the Republic.
Grief poured in with his anger. People had lived here, thrown into an unjust, invented war. Their memorials were no better than the strike-through of their serial numbers in records. The keepers were entrusted with their lives to serve justice, and the keepers murdered them as test subjects.
Tebbith looked at the Colonel and the Senator. “You monsters,” he said. “You and your underlings thought these people were disposable. Well, let me tell you, your life is worth exactly that much to me.”
The Senator croaked once before managing to talk. “Please. Leaving me aside, the staff didn’t understand what they were doing.”
“There are no innocents in the Belsavis guard.”
The lightning flew from Tebbith’s fingertips like he had been building up static his whole life. There were other, civilized ways to kill, but this one was so easy, and almost expressed all his rage.
And then Larr Gith came home, no thanks to Tebbith. He’d done it all for no result except to kill time, and people, until she made her own way home.
“Barsen'thor Tebbith! Are you all right?”
The great Jedi shuddered. “Please bring me before the Jedi Council.”
Tebbith accepted the announcement. The Jedi Council, those who had not been lost to the Emperor, sat in a circle. The Jedi, both incarnate and in holo, seemed to stab his raw skin with their eyes.
He went to his knees at the hall's center. "I surrender."
Fate has continued to pull him away from rest and meditation on Tython. Larr Gith has forgiven him, and people out there need help. When the Emperor was destroyed, the Jedi Council threatened to separate Larr Gith and Tebbith. In order to preserve her chances with the Order, Tebbith agreed to this, and returned to a meditative retreat.
“You belong here, Teb. They need you. They don’t know they need you, because they’re idiots. But they need someone who’s smart and educated in more ways than one. They need someone who has seen the enemies out there and come back home. They need you. And if they want to separate us, fine. I’ve got adventures in mind. I will always love you, and they will never tear you down. Got that?”
His brown eyes seemed to understand everything. “Is asking me to let you go a test?”
Yes, he always understood. “Not a subtle one, I know, but you can’t fail it to me. They’re the ones itching to fail you. The Council will look for the same answer. A little distance. A tiny distance. Enough to prove that we won't break like this again. You are my best friend and my favorite person. That's never gonna change. Now go where you can do the most good.”
But rest and withdrawal don’t seem to last forever.
Nadia has firmly encouraged me to return to the hyperspace lanes, an act that the entire crew affirms, and to be honest, I find purpose wherever I go. Despite my problematic past, the Jedi Council has declined to object to my travels. I will go on reporting to them about what the galaxy is really like. What people really need.
So that’s what he’s doing. The friends he blew off while working with Scythia have re-gathered, and they all seem to want him to go Do Things. And Things need doing. So he’ll be there. Careful, sadder but wiser. He’ll be there.
(Far, far in the future: His vote will change the course of a war.)

replaying the class stories with different characters is so fun because I get to be inspired by random characters who flew past me without my noticing the first time.
Having Cantik confront Master Sidonie was so fun. On the one hand, she is a trained diplomat who, under normal circumstances, is very good at her job; a stark contrast to Cantik who is only ever thrown into diplomacy because he's the only one who can or for other Machinations (because of the shielding technique in chapter one, at Syo's behest in chapter two because it's secretly a first son maneuver to attempt to weaken the Jedi). Cantik is terrible at respecting others and gaining respect, whereas Sidonie has clearly built a reputation around this work and everyone on all sides respects her opinions highly.
And then on the other hand, Sidonie talks about how she thinks in strategy all the time, the idea of doing a bad thing or making a distasteful compromise for the sake of an eventual, stronger peace, and that is very much how Cantik's mind works. He is pragmatic, killing people if he doesn't believe they can be trusted to stay on their side - the only reason he ends up sparing Parkanas at the end is an effort to spare the Jedi bound to him. Up until that reveal Cantik was just going to kill him, and honestly if Cantik wasn't as in tune with the Force as he is he wouldn't have believed Vivicar about it and would have killed him anyway. So when Sidonie talks about how she sees it all, and she may not like it but this is what has to be - it DOES resonate with Cantik. This is a thing he will continue to pretend doesn't matter for a very, very long time.
So new lore to add to it: I have decided one of Cantik's many masters was in fact Master Sidonie. She seems like someone who would have taken Cantik on after a couple masters, maybe someone who thought she would shape them in her image and promptly got driven to greater and greater annoyance as her lessons about diplomacy landed on the ears of a kid who couldn't understand why she was telling them to lie all the time. It works too because their fighting styles in-game are similar, and some of the things she says sound so much like how I imagine Cantik sounding when they're in full Barsen'thor mode - to Cantik's immense frustration, each of their old masters left a massive mark on them, when they seem to have left no impact on any of the masters whatsoever.
(I think Master Sidonie would have doggedly tried to ignore their previous connection. One acknowledgment when Cantik first calls her: "Cantik. Aren't you Master Yuon's padawan now?" and then, after sticking mostly to titles during their confrontation and the aftermath of the shielding, she sends a letter to the tune of "I know what I owe you and what I have done. I hope Yuon is proud of you." I think she feels ashamed of having 'failed' Cantik, that she should have been able to teach them, and that would drive her to try and ignore it. She seems prideful - again, amusingly, in a way that is very similar to Cantik.)

The meditation chamber that you use toward the end of consular chapter one is right next to the cantina in the Tython temple which means while Yuon and Cantik are intently searching for Vivicar there's just. Jaunty jizz music in the background. Help.
How much of Holiday can Cantik actually sense is the question. She's a hologram. He can hear her, but does she have any presence in the Force? I am a firm believer in her sentience/sapience, but like. What if Cantik isn't because he can't sense her... why do we never get to explore what it's like to be a miraluka...
