Max wasn't dating @pettiests, but she was the number one hottest girl in school next to Grace and he wasn't going to let just anyone make a move on her. So of course he was watching her from across the room as they were at this party. A party they hadn't arrived together at, but one they were at at the same time. It was close enough to be his business and he was making it such. He'd been in some partial conversation with Kyle and Jason when he saw this guy slide up to her-- Anthony. Kicker on the football team, guy who actually missed three of his last post goal kicks over two games. Didn't seem like enough, but it was just the right amount to lose them their recent game to the Chemists. Basically, what Max was getting at was that despite being a football player: Anthony was a fucking loser.
Max watched for a minute before he was spotting Anthony reaching a hand out to brush fingers against Regina's bicep. He frowned and quickly shoved his solo cup at Kyle before making his way over, calling out as he crossed the room, "Hey, Anthony, think fast." There was zero hesitation in lifting his arm back sending it sailing forward at a low height to connect with the kicker's gut. The other keeled over with a noise of disgruntled pain, grabbing at his stomach quickly and falling to his knees. "Finding it real cute that you think you're worthy of Hatchetfield royalty. Last I checked, Regina didn't waste her breath on guys with zero umph to their kick."
Anthony croaked something out in retort, but Max ignored it to grab Regina by the elbow, "C'mon," he led her away from the scene and those staring, leading her to the kitchen where he could take her solo cup from her hand and work to refill it. He grumbled as he did so, "Guys like Anthony Torres think they're hot shit because they get a perfect stat one season-- but the past is the past and what matters now is what he does for the team, and lately he's been a real fucking--"
"wait a minute⦠are you jealous?"
Max looked up from where he was refilling her glass with a vodka cranberry mix-- the quarterback a little too good at making special little cocktails. He pauses mid-pour of the liquor, bringing it back down to look over at Regina with a frown, "Jealous?" He lets it settle between them as if he were threatening her to say it again, but then he's continuing, "I don't get jealous, Regina. I get angry when guys like that think they can get in it with the likes of you. That guy? He was shit. You need someone worthy of your goddamn time, you know? Someone who's going to put a crown on your head, not tarnish it. That's what people like us need."
