The Shipwreck of Peter Iredale~
"The mouth of Columbia River is known as a Nightmare Bar or the Graveyard of the Pacific. According to the Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria, since 1792, about 2,000 ships, including more than 200 large vessels, have sunk in this area."

05/17/21 - Fort Stevens State Park, OR - 1906 SHIPWRECK - With all the big winter storms around here and the constantly shifting sand dunes, it’s hard to believe that this shipwreck skeleton has become one of the most easily accessible and longest lasting in the world. This ship, the Peter Iredale, ran aground in 1906 while trying to make its way to the mouth of the Columbia River in bad weather: not an unusual occurrence as Mariners used to call this area the ‘Graveyard of the Pacific’ with over 2,000 ships being lost since the late 1700’s. This history is a great example of there being ‘more than first meets the eye.’ Glad we checked into it.
《《《 sea magic 》》》 . "There must be something strangely scared in salt. It is in our tears and in the sea." -- Khalil Gibran. . Water is the most magic substance on earth, elixir, source of life. It covers more than 70% of the Earth’s surface, which is wild when you really think about that. And we've researched and charted and explored and viewed more of our skies and space than we have the seas and oceans right here at our feet. Water makes up nearly 70% of our bodies, + over 70% of our hearts and brains, we are salt and water, like the ocean, pulled by the moon, just like the sea. . Water is all magic and full of power too. This is the #PeterIredale, a #shipwreck near Fort Stevens, on the @oregon__coast. It ran ashore in 1906, was abandoned, and over the last 100 years it has slowly deteriorated. All that metal and man-made strength, slowly turning back into bits of the Universe again. Just a rusted steel skeleton left, a memory. . And there's Abby, looking so tiny but fierce, sitting right in the middle of the freezing surf on the beach, all peaceful vibes and one with the water and the waves and the Universe. We've visited this spot twice. Can't wait to go back to the beach again. Soon.
