It had seemed like a good idea, at the time.

The mark was small. Sophisticated, Gavin would call it. Understated. Like a scar meant to proclaim his ownership of Peter was nothing but a status symbol for him.

Gavin was younger than him. He had been eighteen when they had first slept together, so beautiful and bright. He had seemed so much more knowledgeable than Peter had at 23, and Peter hadn’t been quite experienced enough himself to realize it had been all empty bravado.

Gavin’s intellect had been enchanting. His attention, intoxicating.

When he had pressed the tip of the heated ring to his collarbone, it had felt like a promise. It had felt like Gavin was giving as much as he was taking.

Now he looks at the mark, not quite faded enough to hide it’s original shape: a cursive letter. An initial. A reminder.
